Hello all. A little on the process of getting my MIL here this year, to visit her daughter (my wife) and Our 3-year old son.
You all know about the Crimea situation, right? The Three of us is going there very shortly and months ago we started the process of trying to get a visa for MIL to come back to Norway With us when we Return from Our holiday in Crimea. She has been to Norway twice, but back then, Crimea was still Ukrainian and when she left in June 2014 for her last visit, it was suddenly Russian land :)
Early on in the process, I contacted the Norwegian embassy in Moscow to inquire about Our situation and what to do as Crimea is in a kind of no-mansland. They answered that there is nothing to stop my MIL from getting a Schengen visa, but that she had to apply via the Norwegian embassy in Kiev, Ukraine! So the way Things are at the moment, western countries still threat Crimea as Ukrainian........... more to follow

When I learned that my ethnic Russian MIL was required to go to Ukraine to apply for her visa, I thought that was it. Too Dangerous.
But my wife and her discussed Things, they are on Skype almost daily and eventually, to my surprise, I was told that MIL would travel to Kharkov and submit the Application With the MF Global visa Company. We started collecting all the papers necessary, invitation by me With documentation of work, salary, economic guarantee by me, Family relations and so on. No problems obtaining these kinds of documents here in Norway, but as expected, it took like 3-4 weeks for it to arrive to MIL.
Well, finally it was all ready and she took the 2-day bus ride to Kharkov and back, to submit the papers.
Travel went well, but she didn't dare bring her Russian Passport With her, just in case. She has a valid Ukrainian Passport fortunately.
When she came in to the Office there, she was greeted very nicely, but once she started to speak in Russian as she didn't feel competent enough speaking Ukrainian, the mood shifted and she was not spoken to politely anymore. Then they said she missed one piece of document. MIL was certain it was delivered, but no, they told her to go back and get that document before the Application could be processed and sent to the embassy in Kiev.
On the way back, there was also stress, on the border With Crimea. Not With the Ukrainian authorities, but with the Russian ones which was pissed off she didn't enter Crimea With a Russian Passport. They had to stay at the border crossing a long time while they checked everyone before they could enter Crimea. ........... more to follow.

However, they told her she has to goto moscow, which is a long way from Crimea.
Wonder how your story will turn out.

Is Your MIL living in Crimea? If so, strange they want her to go to Moscow then?

MF Global is a western Company which apparently (according to their internet site) prides itself in offering good service and are happy to receive feedback from customers, good or bad.
Well, upon Learning that my MIL had been threated With disrespect, I wrote an e-mail to them objecting to that treatment and told them that I expected professionalism the next time MIL went there, or else I would make a complaint to the Norwegian embassy in Kiev that use their services. I never received any answer.
So MIL went back home to Crimea and a little later collected the missing document (don't remember which one it was) and went back to Kharkov. This time my wife told me, she was greeted respectfully and told all the necessary documents was in order and she was told that she could check later on the result online, but that function didn't work as expected.
When enough time has passed by and we were fast approaching the time that we are to go to Crimea, I sent an e-mail to the embassy in Kiev. Received an answer very quickly where they confirmed that my MIL has been granted her visa :)
Last Sunday MIL went on her Third bus-ride to Kharkov to get her Passport With visa. She was back on Tuesday, no problems as far as I'm told. I was sitting across the table as my wife spoke to her on Skype and the to Our surprise we learned that she not only got the visa, but she got a visa valid until 2019, in other Words, a 3-year long visa :)
I never dreamed this would be possible. I suppose they looked at the case; she has a daughter married to a Norwegian and living here since 2012, has a job here, have a child (her grandchild) and that she (MIL) had been to Norway twice previously With no problems for anyone.
So now we will go to Crimea to visit her and my wife's sister, family and and friends and MIL will come back With us to Norway, some 3 weeks later. The Whole show will set us back some 10.000 dollars, but what the heck. You only live twice, right?

Is Your MIL living in Crimea? If so, strange they want her to go to Moscow then?
They told her she has to goto Moscow, because she has Russian nationality + Passport (although her Ukrainian one is still valid until 2018).
Plus, Ukraine has a law against Dual nationality with severe fines + jailtime. Considering the Relationship between Russian/Ukrainians, it might go badly.

If you can wait till after the summer hols, your MIL can fly to Mos and back next day for less than 10,000r.
You would need to book well ahead though..

You would need to book well ahead though..

Unfortunately, she will have to stay in Moscow for a whole week, cause thats how long the procedure will be. (Unless of course, she can book the flight 1 week later).
We will have to wait anyway, until after high-season. She has to work full time now, to get as much money as she can before autumn/winter.
Autumn/winter are relax seasons.

she can book the flight for any date in and return, or even singles. 4250r each way..
though beware, they are steadily getting booked up...
