Title: UK Visitor/Tourist Visa for the Russian In Laws. What's the Latest?
Post by: Manny on February 15, 2017, 03:49:37 AM
So the folks are thinking of coming to visit.

They have been before a few years ago so have previous UK history. Property there. Plus daughter and granddaughter here, etc. I dont see any difficulties with issuance.

Last I read on this some time back they have to drag their arses over to Moscow from Samara to do biometrics - is this still the case? Or are there agencies who facilitate this type of thing now? It seems tedious to have to take a flight to Moscow for the day just to do a visa application, but if it has to be.......

Also, if the visa is so tedious to obtain still as above, what is the longest multi-entry they could reasonably get to save doing it again if they come next year too? Would five years be a reasonable ask?

Nadia's mum got one last year, from Yekaterinburg, was very easy and slick, no issues. Dunno if that's nearer for Samara/Togliatti....

We only went for 6 month one since it was her first.

Consensus is go for 2/5/10 year after 2/3 or 4 6 month ones with no issues. If you ask for a 5 years and don't get it, they will give you a 6 months generally but keep the money for the 5 year (about 350 quid I think) - *snip*s.

Also some other points worth noting, since I still hang around on immigration boards.

1. UKVI like to see 2/3 trips 2/3 weeks each. Establishes a trustworthy pattern. Not 5 months at once etc, our Indian friends do that and are getting rejected next time.

2. Don't say 3/4 weeks whatever on form and stay longer, definite no-no, rejection next time.

3. Prolly know this, 2/5/10 visit visa still means 6 months in every 12 validity (not stay).

4. Though not mandatory, best to have CSI, cos although A&E etc is covered, any other treatment is charged at 150% and if not paid, no more visa.

Been a lot of clamping down on visit visas, as lots have been effectively residing in UK on them for six months, and running up NHS charges, hence the focus on this area now.

As usual the main focus on applying is good immigration history, and reasons to return.

Pretty much what Ste put above. When was the last visit of the in-laws?
Regarding the 6 month validity, people seem to think it's the time they can spend in the UK!!!! Taking the p**s really.

Got one on the boards now, has 2 year visit visa, did 10th August 2015 until Jan 2017, want to do another near-6 months  - in two days time!

That's tax-resident!

That's what they do, isn't it. Come and work on visit visas on the cheap. Employer doesn't pay market rates, NI contributions etc. Employee gets cash in hand and a much higher wage then back home.

Think it's much more difficult to work now - though working black is still rife. I see a lot on the forum using their mothers for free six months child care under the guise of 'helping out with the baby'.

And to be fair it's not all from the Sub-continent, there's an Australian couple on at the moment with a totally hair-brained scheme, wife wants to study just at weekends for some oddball thing for 12 months, Tier 4 not applicable for such arrangements, so the plan is to arrive on visa waiver, put their kid into school, live of savings, and do the course.

Seem to think (along with 90% of Americans) that visa waiver means they can overstay and do what they want, USA citizens being the leading offenders.....

I keep telling them visa waiver doesn't mean no visa required, just it's a virtual one and the rules still apply......

Very true that. Big entitlement issues........

For our wedding ten years ago. No biometric BS then.

They'll probably only stay a few weeks, but rather than have the palaver again if they come next year, I'd rather try a longer one if we can. Even two years is better than nowt.

It's as broad as long between Moscow and Yekaterinburg. It's still an epic train ride or a plane for the folks. Plus a hotel overnight I expect.  :rouble-smile:

I'd go for the 6 month first given the time lapse.
We got a 2yr one for my MIL after a few 6 monthers under her belt. Understand where you're coming from tho'. Its a PITA for sure.
Edit: you could always write a covering letter explaining the logistics involved as the reason for applying for a longer term.

Most of what ste has suggested is about right to my knowledge..
They will have to go to Moscow for biometrics, Samara is under their area of responsibility.
They will need travel/medical insurance, we have found ingostrakh ok, https://www.ingos.ru/ru/.
but Rosno also do this type of insurance.
Easier to fly Samara to Moscow than the train, possible to do the job in one day then.
Difficult to say if you will get more than a 6 month visa, have known a 2 year to be issued after only 1 trip, but as ste says, pay for and ask for a 2 yr, get a 6 month, the rest of the cost is gone..
If there was any special occasion for them to visit again within a 2 year period, (Grand daughters confirmation/wedding/leaving uni, then more chance of success, but don't cross your fingers too hard..
They MUST still prove reason to return, (Strong Emphasis) for a family visit visa.
HTH..
