Title: How’s the Weather Where You Are?
Post by: Contrarian on June 12, 2019, 06:05:51 PM
Today was blistering hot, it hit 99 degrees over by the airport and at least 97 degrees where I am.

The previous record today was 92 degrees, so yeah a record breaking day!!

My AC unit has been working overtime today!

And you Gents and any Ladies out there, how ‘bout y’all??

The weather forecasters in my area predict a more cooler summer than in previous years.  Last night it was in the 60s in my area.  Today, the mid-70s. For those on the metric system, that is about 23 C.     It is predicted to get warmer this coming weekend though.

Lucky you, very nice cool weather there!

We are lucky like that in Netherlands. No dangerous Animals/plants/weather to speak of.

Usually the amount of people killed due to nature (weather/plants/ animals) is <5 on a population of 17 million Dutchies.

Fun fact: The mosquito is the most deadly animal to us humans. It kills more than 2 million humans each year due to diseases it carries.
Nr 2 is the family of snakes, with 140.000 deaths worldwide.

12c here today, wet and windy, but the sun is just starting to come out. Where my wife is from in Western Ukraine, I saw a video the other day of everyone in shorts and T shirts and about 6" of snow, apparently they had a freak snow storm middle of the day and everyone was caught out in summer gear. Sure is some weird weather about recently.

Epic beautiful warm sunny New England weather even on the gray rainy days - best described as natural air conditioning in June high 60s F at night and mid to high 70s to low 80s F days - been riding my mountain bike every excuse I get - will be more hazy hot and humid in July and August "dog days" of summer.

Stripers are running now then blues this summer (Giant Striped Sea Bass 10 to 50 lbs each spawn up rivers and Bluefish 5 to 20 lbs each).

That’s such an important factor!

I love the Pacific Northwest and the natural beauty of my home state WA and my current state of Oregon.

But both states are being ruined by “progressives”. To me the Dems are now just Commies — high taxes and it never ends.

Might consider relocating to the East Coast such as Florida or the Mid West such as Ohio.

Today’s weather thankfully will be cooler, prolly about 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

The weather today was about 30 degrees. A little bit windy an hour or so ago.

Very pleasant for relaxing on the beach and pretending to work.

A good day for the 'Internet Lifestyle'.

I just followed your link and then onto the Manchester link: https://wikitravel.org/en/Greater_Manchester

I rather think Greater Manchester is closer to 5m people than the 2.6m people stated. And the Trafford Centre is listed as a tourist attraction. Which is a bog standard US mall in most respects. And apparently, Salford is now a city (it ain't - it's more like the Bronx).  :chuckle:

When the weather is nice and warm and you are bicycle riding with a lovely lass with a comely chassis in front of you - ladies before gentlemen, of course, it does lend to getting the blood racing for more relaxing sensual evening activities afterward...

Of all of the major cities reported on weather around the world on the local paper, Dubai had the highest temperature on Tuesday.  Hotter than S. F. which reached a rare 100F on Monday.  it could get a bit hotter in the Persian Gulf with the rocket attacks reported today.

What a spectacular day today...

Perfect day for a victory cigar after last evening's EOW Review...
I get a 10% veteran's discount from online giant JR Cigars https://www.jrcigars.com/deals/  and they ran a Father's Day Special 25 Good Hand Rolled premium Cigars for $35 USD and free shipping - 35 divide by 25 = $1.40 each the Montes alone go for $10 to $12 each at the local man cave - it must have been popular because their web site never updated with my USPS Tracking # info so I was sure they would not be in by father's day yet got a knock at 3:30 PM Fri and they were delivered in a Giant Montecristo Humidipak parcel - so in order from good to great:

Casa Blanca - Good
Casa de Garcia Connecticut (CT) wrappers - Quite Good
Gispert CT Robustos - Quite Good
Romeo Y Julieta Maduro Robusto - Sensei rated Very Good
Montecristo AJ Fernandez Box Pressed Habanos Wrapper darker than Nicaraguans but not as dark as Maduros - Excellent
A couple of Medium Wrapper Montecristo Platinums - Simply Epic

Quite an effective Customer Loyalty Rewards marketing campaign for Father's Day.

Now for an Espresso to Go with a Cigar Traveller on my Mountain Bike to go to Aldis for some fresh fruit...

Next Saturday is the bargain Bus Round Trip day trip to Hampton Beach will save a few stogies for the beach.

5763 Sealawn Ave Tacoma, WA  1989 to 1991

My brother and I spent a summer in Edmonds and swam in Puget Sound right there.

We then spent about 5+ years in Monroe and swam in the Skyhomish River.

Next up was Kirkland, I graduated from Juanita HS. Did a lot of swimming and water skiing at Lake Washington. Sure enjoyed hydroplane races and Seafair also. Also spent a few years in Everett.

This is happening in every warm weather Marxist SJW Democrat Socialists of America (DSA) CPUSA (Communist Party of the USA) married to the Radical Far Leftist Democrat party controlled Urban Area - Seattle, Portland, San Freakcisco, Los Angeles and San Diego...  The western desert Cities are in more Conservative Run States so do not tolerate such open destructive Communist Chinese and their client Mexican Narco-Terrorists flooding their states with Fentanyl, Carfentanyl, Meth, Heroin or Cocaine to such an extreme extent.

Boston is bad but northern cities Boston NYC Chicago Minneapolis etc still have brutally cold arctic winter blasts and even Drug Addicts do not like to freeze to death so the Warm Weather Radical Lefty Democrat controlled cities win the Darwin Awards jackpot.  Of course, this is all part of the UN Agenda 21 and Soros et el plan for the USA and EU.

Think Communist China puts up with this crap - only if the CCP is earning from it and controlling it.

Perhaps a sign of the times. Tropical storm (hurricane spotting) is now an informal sport.

Anyways presently over the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico there are in total 6 disturbances. Two will most likely becomes hurricanes, they all ready are named.

Here is the government link it frequently updates > https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ <

It's Hurricane season ..  many insurance cos' for boats / yachts don't cover if it's a named storm ... most wise folk have their vessels sheltered or moved away.

Here's one of the most popular sailing channels and a wedding in the Bahamas, ( whilst in isolation)  just before the folks departed to avoid the inevitable storms

Pretty awful here in Oregon now.

Over 100,000 acres of forest have been burning for 3 days straight nearby. The entire county has been blanketed in ash and visibility is low. Air quality is very bad. At least 80 homes burned to the ground up river from me.

I was prepared to evacuate however the winds shifted.

Hot temperatures didn't happen due to the layer of ash. When the sun does show it looks like a scene from Apocalypse Now.

The conditions you guys are dealing with out there are unbelievable. As most know, I've recently dealt with a couple of structure fires, which were pretty bad actually. But I cannot imagine losing countless acres of forest, whole neighborhoods full of homes and even human lives... terrible. Stay safe Confederate!

The weather here is rarely dangerous for human life.

A couple of "droughts" meaning watch your water supply but no plants will die when humans care for 'em.

Right now its a cozy 18C with mild clouds and mostly sunny. In the evening you can smell autumn rolling in already.

Beach weather is out of the question though, the sea never warms up here and the air isn't too warm either.

Nice days for strolls in parks though, as the most dangerous wildlife we have appears to be a lone single she-wolf hunting sheep and the whole country is in uproar and asks the beast be killed  :chuckle: Without the wolf we have no wildlife threats other than stupid ppl pissing off cows and have to make a run for it.

I mean, you have a bigger chance some satellite will fall on your head than get killed by animal/plant in NL  :-*

We do have 1 dangerous species of plants though, giant hogweeds. Luckily they are easily avoided because of the unpleasent smell and they look like no-touchy already.

It’s still hot and humid but in a few weeks it should turn much cooler. After a long, hot and drawn out summer stuck in situ some milder weather is much needed.

We might do Thailand in November if the situation permits.

Thank you. So far so good.

About 165,000 acres are now burning in the fire closest to me and the fire is only 5% contained.

The air quality is horrible and was probably the worst today. Portland rated worst air quality of any city in the World!

Sofa surfing can be fun, depending on the quality of said sofa ..

It's petrol where you come from, and where *I* come from one doesn't fill a 'gas' guzzler Merc tank with 3 thimble fulls in a 24 hour period and then need to stop for a FORTH when already late to catch a train ..

There you go, the actual version of events has been corrected, once more.

Thank you, I hope not too. Today was sunny and no clouds in the sky.  Yea I was looking at that earlier today. It depends on how close the eye gets. Also they have what is called the clean side of the storm and the dirty side. It depends on which side of us the eye will pass. Right now they are expecting it to pass on the Louisiana side which will be the clean side for us. The trouble with these storms they can change course.

Been a soft winter here, up until last Monday
which we got 42 cm, with winds hitting 100 k
so quite a mess, and now its cold, so staying a bit.

I don't know where Av is in New England, but we won't have two months
left here, normally all gone by 1st 2nd week of April, sometimes sooner.

Jet stream is interesting and for us up here, also the gulf stream which is
even ore intriguing, we also get northern air flow pushing down on us,
makes it one of harder places to predict weather due to possibility of
coming from three different direction or combinations of three.

-15C this week in Moscow and that should continue for another week when the temperature rises to a balmy -6C :P.

One thing I've noticed though is it feels warmer at -15C than at -2-5C, I suspect because of the humidity.

Wifey says the normal -20 to -25 in a Samara winter is no problem for her and normal, but she's always cold here at anything below 5c. It must be a humidity thing.

Same with heat I suppose. When I've been in FL at maybe 28-32c ish, you can take a shower and if you're outside your shirt is wet with sweat 30 mins later. But in the south east of China at temperatures in the mid 30s, it feels a lot different and is easier to handle. But in nearby Hong Kong, maybe its because its surrounded by mountains and has a kind of micro climate, I do struggle outdoors for too long there in the heat.

I hear the same from people here who have relocated from Siberia. -40C there feels warmer than -15C here in Moscow.

I lived in Houston for couple of years many moons ago and the humidity is brutal, much like Florida. I'd wake up some days to what seemed like a beautiful day, only to step outside and quickly return to my air conditioned flat. Unbelievably uncomfortable, even at midnite.

My first summer after I moved back to LA, people were complaining about the hot temperatures and while it can get hot in LA, it's nothing like Houston, and much of the South for that matter.

Felt pretty good to me as LA is much less humid.

All things considered, I'll take -10C over 30C any day of the week. Unless of course, I'm near a nice body of water :).

Being close to water makes a big difference here,
-10 is almost worse than -40 out west,
they say out west you have to becareful at times,
it doesn't feel that cold and will give you frost bite.

On Atlantic coast, close to ocean it feels like it goes right through
you. Currently first time in years all of Canada is below 0
Texas has warnings as they are getting snow in some places.
that has not happened in years.

They told me 30+ years ago  that climat change would have
us growing palm trees here. well I am waiting and I am ready for it :)

Yep, humidity is a big thing. Some of the most miserable weather here is at the end of October when it is still above 0 but 80% humidity and the winds start getting cold, it's bone chilling.  The good part about about temps below -30 is there usually isn't any wind, a week ago I was out when it was -20 and a strong icy wind that brought the wind chills up to -40 and it felt way colder than that night it hit -43. I couldn't face that wind for ten seconds before turning away.

All in all it hasn't been too bad to get through this though, I have a nice airtight wood stove that has kept the house at a cozy 22-23c and I just haven't ventured out too much. Tonight is supposed to be our last cold night at -34 then after that its going to warm up more and more every day, with highs of -5 by Saturday. Looks like this cold snap will be ending

I slipped on some black ice the other day in Southern New Hampshire and scraped my knee - above 34F during the day and 24F at night ideal for black ice - being near the gulf stream we are always on the Snow-Sleet-Rain lines on the weather forecasts - so I bought some heavy duty slip on stable ice studs for my winter shoes and boots so I don't crack my skull slipping and falling backwards...

So far a mild winter outside of the ICE unlike a few years ago where we looked like a Dr. Zhivago winter scene with 10 feet of snow everywhere.  Downside is we may still be in mild drought conditions in the spring.

Title: Less than three kopecks this week
Post by: 2tallbill on February 17, 2021, 10:48:27 PM
We had cRazY weather in Texas.

In the last 4 days we have average 15 minutes per hour or less having
electricity. I've had 5 minutes per hour of internet, the cell phone service
is ZERO and all the stores including Walmart have been closed.

Some of our friends haven't had water in 3 days.

I've invited them to shower in our home but they are afraid to drive
on the same roads as people who don't know how to drive in the snow.
They will start arriving tomorrow.

I have a Russian wife, I am fine. We are equipped to survive the zombie
apocalypse. I haven't made three kopecks in a week but I will make
money again when the electricity, internet and roads become open
again.

We are fine, others who live in apartments or don't have Russian wives
are NOT fine, tens of thousands are suffering their electricity is off and
they have electric heat. Some people have to boil their water, but ours is good.
We have a stocked pantry and freezer, we have gas heat but it only works
when we have electricity, we have a gas stove so I will get fatter unless
I can get out of the house.

Udachi!

In lower New England we will pick up another +/- 6 inches (15 cms) of snow. Already 4 inches (10 cms) have fallen. The cold that plagued Texas is moving East with moisture.

I drive a front wheel drive vehicle, it is amusing to see SUV's with women going sideways or stranded off the road. I can assume they are not from Russia.

Over a ten year average there are in Houston less than 14 days of so-called degree days. Many winters do not see any freezing periods at all. Ask for snow tires in southern Texas and they might think you need to change your drugs or drink less.

The reality is records are just that, they will be broken.

This gives a fair amount of background to the disaster in Texas. A large part of the problem seems to be a lack of investment in infrastructure. Note the title is misleading or mislabeled.

It was colder than it has been in 122 years. The problem is our power grid is designed to take heat not cold like this. I stayed on the boat as it has generator, solar panels and batteries. Still a very boring four days. No rolling blacks here the power was just off. Not many stores open and most restaurants also not open. We were beginning to run out of gasoline also. The city of Houston did not have anything to put on the ice on bridges and many roads had to be closed. Food in super markets was getting low and not recovered yet. Most restaurant still not open as their food went bad because of lack of electricity and have not been able to get resupplied. No one was paying attentions to the lack of cold weather preparedness of the power grid because we have had so little cold weather for so many years. Water here was not a problem but it was in Houston. People letting water run to keep pipes from freezing lead to water shortage in some places. Also water main not prepared for these temperatures caused some breaks.

I don't understand how the texas weather can impact it in such a huge way.

Netherlands also suffered a power-failure in my city during the 2-week coldstorm with snow, ice and harsh winds.
Repairtime was 4 hours and the city was ok again. Temperatures of -10 in the night and -5 in daytime. Thank god thats over.
4 hours were needed to replace a broken powerline and fix some fusebox on a city-block level.

I do hope they will improve their situation soon!

Expecting a high of ~30C (hot) and a low of 13C (not hot) tomorrow here in my little piece of Florida.  Glad I'm not anywhere else, in particular Texas, at the moment.

More deferred maintenance, given the relative probabilities.  Plus it's Texas so the Rabid Left has taken time off from screeching about how they hope Rush Limbaugh is burning it hell - HELL! - to chortle about Texas.  Lots of Sturm with lots of Drang to go with it.

There have also been political decisions made about priorities that have worsened the crisis for more folks than have been helped.   To wit, a decision was made to prioritize nat gas to residential for those folks who heat with gas.  Sounds reasonable, right?  Well, yes, until you figure out how much electric generation is gas-fired, and that's before you even get to folks who heat with electric.

So yeah, lots of libs with lots of OPINIONS. :chuckle:  I've worked in energy for 20+ years so it amusing (to me) for me to say, "Yes, please tell me about that industry I've worked in for 2 decades.  I will wait for you to google."

Yes, well, everything is closer together there, and you are (comparatively) used to winter weather.  Notice that there is no generalized freakout going on in the Northern part of the USA.  Sure, the media wants to build everything up into how it's the "BIGGEST! WORST! OMG, WE'RE ALL GONNA *DIE!!!!*" drama ever, but that's their move.

On my little lane in Connecticut, where I lived until three weeks ago, we lost power for a week straight last winter after a big storm.  But everyone had a working fireplace, plenty of wood (or pellets), a generator, or built-in back up generation (me and one other guy).  And we all had blankets and winter coats and such.  It's life in the Northeast.  If it happened in the South it would be called "SNOWPOCALPSE!" or some shit, because they just aren't built for it.

So now Ted Cruz flying his family to Cancun is some sort of HATE CRIME (never mind that he spent <24 hours there, personally and that, as a Senator, he has *zero* executive authority.  He can ask the President for disaster relief, which he did (in conjunction with John Cornyn, TX other Senator) on the 14th.  But people want to scream "OMG! NO FAIR!!!" and act like he's sipping little umbrella drinks, pool side, all week, which is patently untrue.  I don't care for Cruz one way or the other, but if he's as bad as the Dems say, do they need to lie about him?)

Oh, and evidently 1/3 of ERCOT's BoD lives out of state.  Not sure what the relevance of that is, but evidently it's a "thing."   And also ERCOT being its own grid is somehow a product of de-regulation (a cardinal sin among the "Muh BIG GOVERNMENT!" crowd), but they get pissed when it is pointed out that ERCOT was created as an independent grid in 1970s and de-reg came about in 1996.

The real problem is this:

No media BS. Here is a chart from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. Electricity generated in Texas during this cold snap from wind and solar dropped to a third of what is normal. Electricity generated from coal slightly increased. Electricity generated from natural gas almost doubled. Yes, natural gas struggled as the media said but it wouldn't have struggled if it didn't have to carry most of the load. During the cold spell, natural gas produced more electricity in Texas than solar, wind, hydro, coal, and nuclear combined.

There are claims that wind turbines are to blame for the agony in Texas.

The below is from The UK Independent.

CLAIM: Wind turbines freezing over in the cold weather were primarily responsible for Texans losing heat and electricity this week.

THE FACTS: Failures in natural gas, coal and nuclear energy systems were responsible for nearly twice as many outages as frozen wind turbines and solar panels combined, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which operates the state's power grid, said in a press conference Tuesday. With millions of Texas residents without power this week amid frigid temperatures, some government officials and conservative commentators falsely claimed that wind turbines and solar energy were the main culprits. “We should never build another wind turbine in Texas,” Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. “The experiment failed big time.” “This is a perfect example of the need for reliable energy sources like natural gas & coal,” tweeted U.S. Sen. Steve Daines, a Republican from Montana. A viral photo of a helicopter de-icing a wind turbine was shared with claims it showed a “chemical” solution being applied to one of the massive wind generators in Texas. The only problem? The photo was taken in Sweden years ago, not in the U.S. in 2021. The helicopter sprayed hot water onto the wind turbine, not chemicals. Natural gas and coal provide the bulk of electricity in Texas, “and that's the bulk of the cause of the blackouts,” according to Mark Jacobson, director of the Atmosphere/Energy Program and professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University. ERCOT said Tuesday that of the 45,000 total megawatts of power that were offline statewide, about 30,000 consisted of thermal sources — gas, coal and nuclear plants — and 16,000 came from renewable sources. On top of that, while Texas has ramped up wind energy in recent years, the state still relies on wind power for only about 25% of its total electricity, according to ERCOT data. The agency confirmed that wellhead freeze-offs and other issues curtailing supply in natural gas systems were primarily to blame for new outages on Tuesday after severe winter weather caused failures across multiple fuel types in recent days. Renewable energy is a popular scapegoat for new problems as more frequent extreme weather events strain infrastructure, according to Emily Grubert, an assistant professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. “It’s easy to focus on the thing that you can see changing as the source of why an outcome is changing,” Grubert told the AP. “The reality is that managing our systems is becoming more difficult. And that’s something that is easy to blame on the reaction to it, but it’s not actually the root cause.”

—- Associated Press writers Ali Swenson in Seattle and Arijeta Lajka in New York contributed this report.

Photo of icy boats is from Switzerland, not Texas

CLAIM: Photo shows boats covered with ice in a marina in Galveston, Texas, during this week’s record freeze.

THE FACTS: As massive storms pummeled the southern Plains with snow, sleet and freezing rain this week, leaving millions without heat or electricity, a viral photo falsely claimed to show the severity of the cold in Galveston, Texas. The image, viewed more than 100,000 times on Facebook, featured a row of boats tied to a dock and covered in a thick layer of ice. “Meanwhile in Galveston,” read one post with the image. “Galveston Texas today,” read another post Tuesday. “This is a historic pic. Wow.” However, a reverse-image search reveals the photo of the frozen boats was taken more than a decade ago, and has gone viral online several times before this week. The image was originally captured by Swiss photographer Jean-Pierre Scherrer in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2005, according to posts on PBase.com, an online photo blog. Scherrer took several pictures of frozen boats, cars and trees near Lake Geneva after an ice storm. A note from Scherrer on the photo-sharing site clarifies that his photos were indeed taken in Geneva, Switzerland, not Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, or elsewhere. Even though the image is being shared in the wrong context, it’s true that severe winter weather has covered large swaths of Texas, including Galveston, in snow and ice.

— Ali Swenson

A fair bit of the power in Texas is generated by gas powered generating plants. It is in fact a rather clean fuel compared to say coal. One draw back is that with the gas is moisture as it enters the plant. If the plant is not equipped to deal with the water vapor in the various lines they freeze in extreme cold weather.

The weather was extremely cold in Texas last week.

The weather here is what is called Indian Summer. PERFECT

North and to the East of Bermuda is a category 4 hurricane named Sam. Eventually it will loose strength as it moves North over colder water and greater so-called wind shear. It is though quite possible though it will impact Iceland as a Tropical Storm. This is perhaps unique.

Just went through a nasty storm this weekend,
started with 25-30cm snow, 90k winds
20cm of that coming in 2.5 hours,
3 hours of freezing rain another 2cm of snow
off and on freezing drizzle for 5 hours
temp was about -1
then went to +2 rain, then -5 in about 3 hours
currently -7 windchill -15
not a fun weekend, also one of the things I do
is snow and Ice control, so sleep was not part  of the weekend :)

It was 25 degrees yesterday morning, they 28 degrees all day long, with a light rain and wind which made it feel colder. Overnight it rained and then the temperature dropped. This morning my car had a thick sheet of frozen ice all over it as a result and there's black ice all over the roads and sidewalks. Very dangerous.

In SoNH we had rain this morning and light snow flurries current temp  is 33F but thanks to the Arctic bomb cyclone or bombogenesis a 24 millibar or greater drop in air pressure in 24 hours.. we dropped at least 30 millibars according to my fishing barometer... At 8AM tomorrow AccuWeather app indicates we will be down to 11F ... Great for snow making on the ski slopes and start of the ice fishing season.

Negative 5 degrees F here in NW Pennsylvania tonight, but with the windchill it feels much colder. Snow accumulation has only been around 2 inches thus far though, so not too bad, all things considered. The bobcat's cab is heated anyway.  :)

Out West we've had a horrible ice storm which started on Saturday. Never been through such a thing or seen grass frozen rock solid, trees all over the place have fallen down and crashed on houses and on the roads.

Cars with almost an inch of ice on them and doors frozen shut and an inch of ice on most of the roads. This state doesn't have infrastructure for this type of storm so they don't have any salt to salt the roads with and melt the ice. Power was out for 2 1/2 days where I am with very cold nights. Will be so happy when this stuff finally melts.  :coffeeread:

It has been a bit nippy here. I saw my first polar bear yesterday, migrating from up north. :)

It is about -15 centigrade (5 degrees Fahrenheit). So, I had to turn on the heating. Not good days if one has to go outside for anything other than walking to the car. Snow is everywhere, but the big storms seem to have finished, so now its all going to turn to ice that will last for weeks.

Oh, no polar bears; they live up in the proper north. Sorry.

We had 1 day of snow here. Traffic was chaos as they were not used to it.

Stuff is all gone now too, roads are clear once again.Temp varies between +5C / -3C.

This interesting drama is a classic movie which was set in 1973 during the Nixon years. Great flashback scenes for those who can remember the cars, clothes, and the events of Watergate. So I thought of this movie, not for the drama but because I remembered something from the trailers about an epic ice storm.

This trailer is indicative of what can happen.

Wicked scene! I've never seen that movie before but now I'm going to look it up. Electricity is definitely nothing to fool with. It's bitterly cold here in NW PA with a couple of inches of snow on the ground. But lots of sun in the daytime, which is nice as long as you soak it up before about 4:30 pm, lol.

Snow is much better than freezing cold rain which than freezes and destroys trees and even power poles. We had 4 power poles near McDonalds split and fall down with the transformers and power cables on a busy main street, besides all of the trees which have split or dropped heavy branches on peoples heads. The place looked apocalyptic.

In fact it made me think of how this country is going to look if the nut-job in the White House manages to start a war with Russia and China and they hit us with EMP's and tactical nukes.

Imagine being without power for 7 to 14 days, all the supermarkets are bare, you've got no electricity to cook and the water supply gets dirty sludge water and other possible contaminants in it, which happened here; but only for a few days.

Then again if DC gets hit with Nukes during the height on Budget hearings that might be a blessing.

I've yet to watch that movie however the classic 1973 scenes brought back memories...

Here's another look at what weather can do...

The ice storm of Montreal, Canada. The footage about 4 minutes in is wicked.
