I have a friend 'dating' a girl in Crimea.
He has seen her on Skype and other programs, but he hasn't met her. So, alarms went off in my head when he told me it costs her $40/15 minutes to receive incoming international calls on her cell phone.
Is anyone in Crimea? Or, does anyone have a girl in Crimea that can tell me if this is crazy or not?
I googled, and I didn't see anything to support or not support his 'experience.'

PS he has gone over once, but ... I might have to give that story in the train wreck room.

Thats redicolous, incoming calls in Crimea (international or otherwise) are free of charge.
Only outgoing calls cost a lot of money (international, local calls are free of charge).
That said, if he has her skype, why spend tons on money for international calls and not just use Skype.
This is the biggest mobile provider in Crimea : http://www.mts.ru/

Thank you.
I found it crazy, but the takeover was crazy. He said it was because she had a Ukrainian phone.

Another fat big red flag, there are no Ukrainian operators left in Crimea, only Russian ones. So Ukrainian phones would be "international" phones. Any girl would rush to the operators and buy a Russian sim card, as calling your mom regularly on those costs would be impossible.
And the takeover wasn't crazy, it was the biggest street-party I have ever seen happening. People are still celebrating now, 2 years later.

As an aside, I still find the Obama-Putin detente a crazy series of misadventures.
;)
Thanks again.
