What is it me and service cock ups?
Flying from Bangkok via a European hub to another EU destination
1st flight delayed..so I will prob. miss my connection.
1st flight may only be delayed 50 minutes... but I only had 40 mins.
How I am sat here browsing my EU rights and find that unless the airline has a bloody good excuse..if I end up in my final destination more than 3 hours late...it's 600 Euros!
Who wants to leave the EU with consumer rights like that ?!

Well this is my first time with Finnair and they know how to handle a 'difficult' situation...
I have never posted from 6 miles up, before....

It is, but sometimes easier said than done. Airlines are really dragging their feet about paying.
I was delayed a few months ago to China with Cathay Pacific. Eventually I used these lawyers (http://www.bottonline.co.uk/) to get them to cough up. They cost maybe £100 or so, but Cathay coughed it all up in the end and I didn't need to waste time on it, the whole process with Bott is online.
A few hundred quid back is always welcome.
Who wants to leave the EU with consumer rights like that ?!
Because its not rocket science for the UK to enact a similar law?
No need to pay £53m a day plus all the other woes the EU inflict on us just for that, thanks.

Why pay a lawyer when they will get you all your comp and they take their profit from the costs awarded ?
Think about it..do you think the UK can go it alone on such legislation?
If 'we' leave the EU this is just one example of power we'd lose.

This 35 million / day...This is not the first time you've used it and we have discussed it's probably overstating, before.
I am no longer confident of BEING 3 hours late as their is a flt that will get me to my destination 2 hrs and 50 mins late...
I think I will be put on that...even if another airline...
Met up with some Estonians last night.. Tried an Estonian liquor..Vana Tallinn...'Old Tallinn'..I reckon it was the closest thing I ever tasted to Southern Comfort...I wonder which came first ?)

My daughter went to New York with the school recently and was c.5 - 6 hours late arriving, we are using these https://www.resolver.co.uk/ fairly simple so far, 3 emails and they look to be collapsing, others who started their claim before us have already been paid out.

I did that a couple of times with the connections being in Dusseldorf and with different airlines, typical Germans, went without a glitch and that includes collecting luggage and having to go through a document check again, not sure anywhere else would have handled it without problems though. Bit risky!

It can be done sure. I've had delays and the connecting plane has waited due to large number of passengers needing that connection but that was with Qatar.
I think if it's different airlines and you've left a tiny connection time you might name yourself Oscar Pistorious. But we shall see how Moby gets on.

Crap...they've given up cpr and asked parents with kids to avert their attention as they move the body to the aft of the plane. We are over Izhevisk... but I think the plane will carry on.

Yes...same airline and I done similar changes..the cut off is 30 mins for being too close and most schedules are very generous.
For obvious reasons I will not comment on places or the airline for a cuple of days..in the remote chance a relative found this thread.
All I can say is the staff and some passengers were very calm and professional.

The body of the passenger was moved to the main galley at the rear..and unsurprisingly there will not be a second meal service ..we are heading on to our destination...

Also would question whether the airline would be obliged to pay out for any lateness through no fault of their own...

When we did our 40 minute change in Dusseldorf the first time we questioned the short time limit with the airline, thinking it was way to short. This was with Lufthansa and UIA, the Lufthansa lady told us the absolute shortest time you are allowed is 30 minutes between connections. So, with a certain amount of concern and trepidation we gave it a go, and it went fine, so we did it a second time again with no problems later that year. Have never had to do it since, as it is a bit of a worry at the time, but who knows.
PS it was also the time when we managed to get a German Schengan within 3 days by post (as Dusseldorf at the time did not have an International transit zone) I guess everything was going for us at the time. :)

As you eventually do land, look out the RH side windows, you may be in time to see your connection flight taking off..

That's much too close for comfort for me, especially coming into or leaving a European airport.
Try it coming in from the US and transferring onto a European bound plane.

If I remember correctly the minimum time that booking systems allow for flight changes within the EU is 25 minutes. Having done a transfer in that kind of time I know that it is silly to try it.

I usually do at least 1,5 - 2 hours connection time, especially if transferring through Schiphol or Sheremetyevo.
The distances between terminals can be huge!

I nearly shat myself! This was in Frankfurt. I managed it but promised myself to never accept such a tight itinerary again - and I don't.

Slight off topic but plane related, when MIL was here in November for two weeks, the middle Saturday FIL called saying where is MIL, which flight is she on as he's at the airport to collect her?
He was a week early, 300 mile round trip on the usual shit roads....

My wife always has a 30 min connection with Lufthansa in Germany on the way to Russia and 40 mins back; never missed one yet. The Germans have that totally nailed.

Now I note you ducked that UK ltd is a hub as far as airports go and why imposing a stand alone compo tax weakens both consumer rights and the competitiveness of any UK based airline.
If you truly think ..example Jap car companies wouldn't move to E.Europe you are kidding yourself.. Pls take the time to check ...They have ALL said they would regard a BRexit as a negative and would review their options.
