Title: Married my dream wife- my story
Post by: JonTrex on August 03, 2019, 12:05:02 PM
Hi Guys, I used to post on here almost a decade ago. I was so lost back then..haha

I travelled all over the FSU and spend some time in each major city of Ukraine. Eventually, I found my wife and now we're settled down and living together. I'm going to take up a job offer in Germany soon and work for an IT company there. Its the easiest way for both of us to be in one country, visa hassle free.

I met my wife during a BBQ in a local park where I was invited by some friends I met at an English meetup group. If anyone is in the FSU, I strongly recommend attending a group where they have English practice since so many people just want to speak with a foreigner and get some practice.

Well, after lots of trips and heartaches I got married last year. Now I'm starting a youtube channel that shows how to meet Ukrainian girls.

Here's the link:

If you guys have any questions please post here or PM me.

if you met your wife at a BBQ at an English meetup group why would you need to tell others how to do it? they can just use meetup :'( :'(

The story seems very fishy. Allegedly they’re married yet he needs to move to Germany so they can be together. How long have they been apart? I see a single Ukrainian bird with a strong accent in the video, who hopes to get more subscribers.

1) No, actually I met her at a BBQ I was invited to by friends I met originally at an English meetup

2) I'm moving to Germany since I got a job offer there.

Just look at how great Ukrainian cooking is. Bet you wouldn't turn down a meal like this:

Why would there be a hassle with visas if you married her?

Take your time.

Cornfed, I know you've not married an FSU W - it shows ..

If she is granted residency in an EU nation - as a dependent of someone else granted residency to live / work in that EU nation - she is also allowed to live /work  there and travel freely within the EU

Ukrainians can only - legally - remain in Schengen nations for 90 days

FFS - can you think before posting ?

The guy is proud of his missus' (?) and your brain-fart contributions are simply trolling - it's not like he's promoting a biz. model and seeking payment. (yet!?)

She's cooking a variation of баклажан - an Aubergine ( Egg plant) recipe .. served  hot or cold - and very popular across the former soviet union

@JonTrex.. you might want to consider editing out the long silences or chats off screen where nothing is happening. - I found myself skipping again to 'serious action'

Pinocchio syndrome that caught up with them?

Dearest 'honest' andrewfi

We now have the latest  andrewfi brain-fart moment ... the desperate need to pass on the mantle of the "poster who posts the most unsubstantiated guff " is an endless series of fails ..

Looking forward to your next 'well-researched' , " I know Moby's life better than Moby"  chapter ..

In the meantime, I ( hope) I see a guy who is well-meaning and proud ..and if it turns out there's a commericial aspect then I'll put my hands up and read him wrong ..

In the meantime, I welcome new blood and note the usual 'sand-pit anarchists' have arrived to offer 'encouragement '... at someone new's expense..

I also remember username mendeleyev. Cool guy. I see he hasn't posted here in a while, I'm sure he's missed.

for an Australian, marrying a girl overseas doesn't give you automatic residency rights for her, and the application may take 12 months or more to be accessed. there could be many reasons why it's easier in the short term for them to live in Germany

Depends on the type of work visa JonTrex has been awarded.

Some will allow his wife to accompany him and others will even allow her to work .

Just look at how great Ukrainian cooking is. Bet you wouldn't turn down a meal like this:

It's a bunch of fried vegetables.  Not exactly taxing to prepare, and it's not a uniquely "Ukrainian" meal.  Plus, the woman cooking them doesn't seem to understand that one should not use flatware utensils on non stick pans.  It can damage the coating.

Moldy brain,

The OP claims he married her. Normally he would have brought her to the USA and she would now have a green card or possibly applied for one. The timeline of his relationship and marriage wasn’t clear, hence my question. Stop trolling and let the OP answer.

If he’s an American guy than anything more than a sandwich being made is a miracle.  :chuckle:

'Claims' ?

If he has a job in Germany - why would he bring her to the US ? ..She'll still be close enough home to pop back for weekends

Your question needs rephrasing - as it was unambiguous-  and why the "take your time" ?

Is the new  / returned old member on a clock .. ?

What is it with the serially single 'experts' on here .. ;)

like you?! hahaha.... 5 years and you still haven't "married" her. guess when you guys are both 60+ you got all the time in the world.  Slim pickings.

rest assured no one is taking life or relationship lessons from you. 3 failed marriages, getting dumped all 3 times. lost contact with the kids for years.

It’s up to the OP if he wants to clarify his story.

It wasn’t clear to me and likely not to others.

He says he’s married but it seems he’s here pushing a YouTube channel, I suspect for an agency.

Why not let him answer instead of muddying up the story w/ suppositions?

And were you not ignoring me?  :chuckle:

 ;D  That was funny.

I read somewhere that only 10% of Americans like cooking, 45% hate it, and 45% are ambivalent.  So, a sandwich is pretty good.

I showed the video to the better half.  He gave her a 2/10 in cooking, mostly for the attempt.  I hope she makes up for the lack of culinary skill in other rooms.

I would have given her 6 or 7 out of 10 but what do I know?  :chuckle:

I do enjoy watching Rachel Ray and especially Gordon Ramsay on cooking shows.

Cannot cook well at all but like most men can grill a proper steak.

Gordon Ramsay is a good chef.  I have one of his cookbooks.

I don't really like Rachel Ray, I like Giada De Laurentiis.

If you like cooking shows, watch the original Iron Chef from Japan.  They're on youtube.

Anyone can cook, it's easy.  Try the Foodnetwork's recipes.  Tyler Florence, Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentiis, Ina Garten, and Emeril Lagasse all have accessible recipes that always work, as do the Foodnetwork Kitchen's recipes.  The site rates recipes on complexity, so you can use "easy".

Here is a very simple recipe, and it's one of my son's favourite dishes, from childhood, and he still loves it, so I make it at least once a month for him -

https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/cajun-shrimp-and-rice-recipe-1972850

I don't measure, add more garlic and cajun spice, and I make it slightly differently, as I prepare the tomatoes first, using grape tomatoes (more flavour), cook that down, then add fresh shrimp, which cooks very quickly - a couple of minutes at most.  I also make the rice separately (we have a rice cooker, at the kids' insistence), and the dish is poured over rice, as that's the way my son likes it.  I don't add scallions, just chop them on top when serving.  Even if you can't cook, this is so simple, anyone can prepare it.

I think people are overly critical.

The lady we assume to be JonTrex's wife (?) has started her channel in her second language and he is trying to get it 'out there' for her.

It would have been more constructive if he had given us that background, or some context in that he appears to be based in Ukraine. Perhaps the thread title "my story" would have some of it? We dont know his story. He hasn't properly introduced himself. Even what is her name? When were they married? If you want to get a community on side then engage with them.

Jon, this is why the member suspicion and snarky comments.

I'd suggest the lady in the video talks too fast. Tell her to relax a little and fewer of the snippy edits. And introduce yourself and engage.

Good points. It’s a tough crowd. If she were my GF or wife I’d give her 9/10.

The producer of the vid (Jon?) should show her preparing more than just that. It takes time to write and produce any video and we should applaud the effort.

Funny but I absolutely LOVE Iron Chef!!

That and Kitchen Nightmares, best shows ever!!

But no matter how easy, if I am involved; DISASTER zone!

Indeed. My wife recently started her own Youtube channel as well (mostly in Russian). It isnt ready for mass consumption yet. But she did one interview with a local sleb which because it had subtitles and other stuff, we had a local TV company do. And it took 3 cameras, 2 blokes, hour after hour of editing and a big lump of $. The stuff she has done with her phone she isnt happy enough to release. It'd take hours of editing to get it to standard she liked. It's a big subject and not as easy as people think.

When doing DIY ones, I'd get this lady a camera/phone tripod and work on the editing a tad. Editing itself is a skill that takes time to master. Practice makes perfect.

I agree.

It looked like a bunch of fried vegetables, not all of which seemed cooked in the correct order. There was too much in the pan as well so it'll just start to stew and get all watery, rather than cook and colour.

‘The two steaks have been up and down like f*****g Abi Titmuss’s knickers.’

Yes - just call me Gogs Ramsay.

Yes, I thought there were too many vegetables in the pan as well.

I assumed I was being overly critical, which is why I asked the better half for his opinion.  Perhaps that was not the best course of action.  His grandmother was an outstanding cook and baker - she could give any professional chef a run for his/her money.  He measures everyone against her, so of course, everyone else fails.

I'm a fairly good cook and baker.  I used to bake bread from scratch for the kids every Saturday.  However, pretty much everything I cook takes less than 30 minutes prep time.  And, I could never compete with "Babushka".

I AM going to try your recipe.

I can easily fry up some shrimp and I also have a rice cooker.

We’ll see if I can get the rest of it correct. Will try this weekend.

I suggest preparing the tomatoes first, and then add the shrimp to the cooked tomato mixture.

I use a potato ricer to smash the tomatoes once they've heated - it decreases cooking time.  The shrimp, if you're using fresh, should cook fully in 2 minutes.

Or, watch the video, and it should turn out perfectly for you.

Please let me know how it turns out!
