Title: Charmingbrides
Post by: Boris on August 09, 2016, 03:31:42 PM
Well it appears another one may have bitten the dust. Pointed an acquaintance in that direction but he says the site has been down for some time. Another sign of the times?

It's possible their site is temporarily down, but their apartment rental site is working, and you can email the manager, Olga, to confirm if they are still operating.

Nope, they're toast, I'd bet imaginary Internet money on it!

The page will get updated at some point.

By the way, it seems the owner of the business lives here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/123+East+1950+South+Clearfield/@41.0851446,-112.024026,3a,75y,26.53h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m4!1shoZEwFiJtQ817i9FZ34vkQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x449c17648008a920!6m1!1e1 in the USA.

Yep, the apartment rental company is owned and operated by someone else. It is just "affiliated" with CB. By the way...Mormons make great neighbors...:-)

That's the home of Olga, the 'owner' of Charming Brides. Leastways that's what Google tells us about the person named as registering the domain name, also the same name as the 'owner' of Charming Brides.

The following message is displayed when you go the website now (instead of the previous home page with no response links).

Site is temporarily unavailable.

Scheduled maintenance is currently in progress. Please check back soon.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Scheduled website maintenance is NEVER unannounced and is most unlikely to require that the site be down for more than a few minutes.

If the domain becomes active again then it will almost certainly be as a new business with new owners.

Probably been hacked by another site then trashed in some way or another.. Thats normal in Ukraine. I have a friend  in Kiev , that is his job. Hacking competitors web sites , taking the database then depending who the site is owned by either leaving it alone..sometimes removing all files and leaving a ransom note  (He did it to me a long time back)
Another popular plan is to do a DOS attack on your site.. lots of smaller sites don't have protection for this. There are several big well known Russian beauty sites that use these sort of tactics regularly.

Its a dirty business running any type of brides site in Ukraine..

The site is back up, however, you cannot get any photos when going to the profiles.  And many of the options on the main page do not work.  ??? :duh:

Site appears to be back up.  Some profiles do appear when doing searches.  Also, the latest news is a message from this month (Oct. 24).

But you 'overlook it' - having highlighted it as a tactic in Russia ?  :chuckle:

If Paypal and the likes cannot prevent DDoS attacks  - I doubt smaller hosts can - All one can do is have multi layer password verification  - to prevent accessing the database - and at least one  backup of the site in two other locations.

Seems like the Dyn DNS really was a 'script kiddy' attack.

In the meantime - time to revise those webcams and other IoT ( internet of things ) gadgets that one may have at the home / office - that are being used / controlled
