Thanks guys, wish I could take credit for the beach photos but cannot.  My wife works as an artist and therefore with several photographers.  One of them sent them to her sometime ago when she was looking for ideas of areas to travel for painting landscapes.  I don't remember exactly but think he said it was somewhere on the inside of the Crimea off the Sea of Azov, north of the Black Sea.  But I cannot swear to it.

It does look quiet!  Very unlike the crowded areas of most of Crimea, Simferopol, etc, which can be packed in summer.

Possibly.  The photo credit can hardly be seen on the lower right hand corner.  I found it sometime ago on a Kharkov city website when I was doing a story on Kharkov.  As part of my journalism work I have a huge collection of Ukraine and Russia photos from over the past few years and they were cataloged with date, location, etc, but we moved last year and now the key is "where to find them."  I had just transferred them to CD too.

I have walked up and down that street many times, I am sure it is Sumskaya Street :)

I have just checked and it is Sumskaya Street, look here it continues up from Constitution Square. I remember because it is a cobbled area of the main street and ther cars run up and dopwn it at breakneck speed and due to the cobbles the noise is deafening.

Chrismc, I'm glad you could identify the street.  Do you know of the group "Discover Ukraine" in Kharkov?  They do translations, guide work, provide travel services, and also represent some local artists (painters).  How often do you get to Kharkov?

I have an open invitation to go back to Kharkov anytime, but I have not been back there for a couple of years now. I have heard of Discover Ukraine but do not have any personal experience of them.

Hi CoolMendeleyev:

Fancy meeting you here. Recognized you in the picture with your lovely wife. Anyway, I also reconized Sumskaya and thanks to Chrismc for the map of Kharkov. Many memories there. BTW, if you look at the map and find Beketova Metro station and head down on that street, you will find a red cross for Kharkov Children's City Hospital #3 where my wife was the head doctor of the Cardiorheumatological Disorders Ward. The hospital was THE house of the Mayor's doctor before the revolution. You could see the opulence that existed before the revolution.

Just wanted to mention that.

Yes I've seen it, it is just a block or two from Constitution Square, where I stayed. Actually on the map is a Red Cross where it is.
