What was it like to be in Moscow so many years ago?

Many valuable photos and films remain of those days and here is a sampling from YouTube. For instance, several very interesting videos are produced around the old and popular "Song of Moscow."

This video features scenes from Moscow streets, the underground Metro as it looked in days past, trolley buses, and from a cruise on the Moscow river:

And of course there are more modern views of Moscow, too:

Set to a modern version of "Moscow Never Sleeps"

Here's a link to an online slideshow of photographs taken in Moscow in 1909:

Particularly interesting to me was the huge contrast between what the rich people were wearing and what the poor people were wearing (including many, many people with no shoes).

Why does Russia hate Moscow?

Quote from: Pravda
"We polled 1,500 people from Russian cities with the population of 100,000 and higher. The poll was conducted in all federal districts of Russia. The people were asked the following questions: "How would you treat a stranger if you were told that he or she is a Muscovite?"

Huge pyramid outside Moscow
« Reply #34 on: February 06, 2014, 05:24:07 AM »
Some of you may have seen this article on EnglishRussia today about a pyramid to the north of Moscow.

My girlfriend took me to see it when I first visited her in the summer of 2007, so I thought it might be worth expanding on the article.

The pyramid, which is free to visit, was built in 1997 by a Ukrainian businessman called Aleksandr Golod who apparently made his money from selling guitar strings. It is reputed to have cost a million US dollars to build, although I'm not sure what the exchange rate was like in 1997.

The structure consists of a wooden frame, apparently held together by plastic poles with absolutely no nails, and covered in fibreglass panels.

It's twice as tall as it's base is wide, going against the classical proportions of pyramids, rising to a height of some 44 metres (150 feet) and is estimated to weigh around 55 tons.

Within the pyramid at its centre is a collection of small glass pyramids and a large globe.

To one side is a stall which sells miniature pyramids and water that has been "charged" by the pyramid. Experiencing the energy from the pyramid is supposed to make you healthier and cure or improve all kinds of ailments. Apparently farmers store seeds in there at various times of the year in a bid to increase the yield from them.

This is from (what I think is) the official website:

Quote from:
Some of the scientific results of previous studies with Golden Section Pyramids built by Alexander Golod show:

   •   The Immune system of organisms increased upon exposure in the pyramid (Scientific Research Institute named by Mechnikov, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences);
   •   Specific properties of medicines increase with decreasing side effects after exposure in the Pyramid (SRI of Virology named by Ivanovskiy, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences);
   •   Agricultural seeds placed in the pyramid showed a 30-100% increase in yield;
   •   Russian military radar detected an energy column above the Pyramids built by Alexander Golod which is thought to have repaired the Ozone layer in Russia (the same can be done for example in Australia);
   •   The pathogenic strength of different viruses and bacteria becomes less with exposure in the pyramid;
   •   The amount of radioactivity becomes less after exposure in the pyramid.

Golod is thought to have been responsible for the construction of around 30 of these pyramids, with at least 10 in Russia and 20 spread across Ukraine, Georgia and Belarus. The one outside Moscow is the biggest one.

To get there you take the M9 highway to the west of Russia, known as the Baltic Highway as it leads to Latvia as part of the European route E22. The pyramid is located around 20 kilometres outside the MKAD (МКАД) ring road around the 38 kilometre mark.

Here is a link to it on Google Maps (you can use Street View to view it): http://goo.gl/maps/XDqc6

Don't be negative! ;)

I know what you mean. I went with an open mind but didn't quite believe it.

My girlfriend's mum gave her a pyramid this New Year, to counteract the negative energies of her computer. She keeps it next to the computer.

That's good.  No telling what kind of results you may have had with a charged toilet  :chuckle:
