Leaving Russia is not an emigration, rather an evacuation.

I believe that all languages are equally hard and easy to learn. Just takes time and effort. A language only becomes easy to learn if you already speak a related language (i.e. if you knew Italian, then French would be easier or if you know Russian, Ukrainian or Bulgarian is less of a challenge).

we were looking for a direction in some Italian village, I knew only one word where we were going - church, asked old Italian woman, and she was explaining something for a while, I didn't get even one word. I would be happy if she just pointed  ;D

My husband learned Italian at school only for 6 months and then decided it wasn't for him, but he knows few songs in Italian and even had a chance to sign them while we were there and not just for me  :party0011:

I can watch them only on special "international" channel here, they hardly ever show silly movies.

Just a suggestion -- don't, unless you're only looking for a one-night stand and you don't mind taking the chance of coming across as vulgar and clueless if the woman you try it on happens to have some class. Trust me, there are much more elegant ways to ask.  ;)

Rasputin, what a great idea! French is chronologically my second language but I used it only at work for so many years that at this point I'm afraid I can only converse with ease about health concerns. (I can still understand French movies, though. I'm partial to the older ones, which I used to go to see in repertory cinemas with my father.)
Life is so short we must move very slowly.

Bises a tous,
Jmb
