It looked like USA scored a third goal but the refs nullified it.

Soon after that France scored their first goal!

I never understood how soccer (or football) and Ice hockey have offside rules that nullify a goal.  American football has offside penalties, but it is based on a line of scrimmage.  Hockey and soccer do not have lines of scrimmage.  So you cannot be in a certain location based on how the other players are situated?  Why should that matter unless your intent is to make scoring more difficult in soccer and hockey?  In fact, scoring in soccer and hockey is more difficult than American football.   ??? Think of the line of scrimmage in Footsie as a rolling ball/line. If a player can get in a favorable position in front of the ball close to the goal there is a clear advantage.

Actually and please correct me if I'm wrong, there has to be an opposing player (other than the goalie) between you and the goal when the ball is kicked forward.  It prevents lurking.  Now you can run past that defender after the ball has been kicked forward and is still in flight.

Rugby has basically the same offside rule as well.

Concerning Megan Rapinoe I have no problem with her standing quietly and reflecting during the playing of the national anthem.  It is her right as an America citizen to do so.  She is quite obviously the best athlete in the tournament but regrettably one of the most immature.  Accepting AOC's childish invitation to come to Washington DC was in extreme bad form.  {Sigh} young people often make mistakes they come to regret as they grow older.

Shakespeare is correct if there is an opposing player 'defender' between the goal and the ball there is no offsides.

As for Ms. Rapione, she is indeed a talented player and I believe going back centuries sportsmen and women have made political statements on and off the field. I found the head line quoted below from one report amusing.

While not a player the spokes woman, Ms. Fish, for the American side is quite the hottie.

It could be all of her trash talking of the Presidency which is such a huge turnoff. Granted Trump makes it worse by pushing back. If just once he would be silent or say something diplomatic such as “I respect her difference of opinions and the team is still invited if they win”.

BTW after all these years why can’t you guys quote correctly?

Yes, but an online journal Deadspin.

As for quoting, I think I was to fast in using Shakes post and it messed up the formatting. On this thread no one is bent out of shape? Now if it was a doddle or a whale it would be a different matter.

WHaaat ?

Your 'leader' is the epitimy of 'immature' going by his utterances and tweets..

"Why would Rapinoe ever put herself in a situation where she would have to put on a fake smile and be in the same room with the man who chose Mike Pence, who has a long history of working against LGBTQ people, as his vice president? There’s a reason her teammates and a number of celebrities vocalized their support of Rapinoe’s comments."

So. YES.. I want the USA to win - even - if it means beating England

LOLOL Even with MEDS I have absolutely no interest in the typical masculine Boston Bulldog Brawling Butch Dykes that comprise much of organized women's sports in modern LGBTQstd loving western countries.

I prefer feminine, attractive, intelligent loyal Men loving women if you please...
