Former Soviet Union Basketball Teams & Players
« on: February 23, 2019, 04:17:05 PM »
Probably the most famous basketball team was the 1988 Soviet team which beat the US team at the Olympics in Korea. Many of the Soviet team players went on to play for the NBA. Yugoslavia won the silver medal that year as well.

In 1992 after the breakup of the Soviet Union, Lithuania was in very bad shape and could not initially afford to send their basketball team to the Olympics. Step in Bill Walton and the Grateful Dead band who wrote them a check, and suddenly they could afford to go!
