Discussion: paysend.com - Money Transfer to and from Russia
« on: December 30, 2018, 04:49:45 PM »
I know nothing (yet) about paysend.com but Steve's comment in another topic spurred me to want to know more:

2/ Used paysend.com to send money to a RussianSberbank  VISA card - money arrived within a minute

3/ Paid the bill online using the RU visa card

The limits for using paysend.com are

1/ £4000 - proof of ID required thereafter - use passport

2/ up to £13,000 proof of address - UK driving licence with address will suffice

3/ over £13k - tax authority correspondence - proof of pension receipts  /bank statement - verified by bank /  pay receipts / letter from solicitor

Sent some apartment sale money to UK card from Russian visa, this evening - arrived in SECONDS - after we worked out that " address not accepted " disappeared - allowing the sending of funds - with the apartment number was omitted. So from Russia, just City, Street and house number

49 Roubles and exchange rate was not horrendous

Easy and cheapest way to send money to / from Russia we've found ...handy if you're in a third country

Worth a topic I thought. Whats your experience?
please tell me where I'm being / have been 'dishonest'?

I think it is worth a topic.  Years ago when Irina and I were dating and getting married I would do wire transfers from Bank of America to Irina's USD account.  If I remember correctly, it cost $41 per transfer.  In 2020 we plan an extended trip to Russia and I do not think the same system works??
What is worse than not being able to get what you don't even want?

Except it was that 'troublemaker' Moby ? ...   :chuckle:

Since my last post I have used it to:

1/ send Money to a CY bank account (EUR) from my Paypal balance - using a 'UK' based GBP Paypal mastercard UK- from Me to ME - less than a minute - cost £1 - quicker and cheaper than withdrawing to the bank from paypal

2/ Sent money FROM Russia to a UK Bank - less than a minute 49 Roubles

3/ Sent money from the UK to a mainland Turkey bank - less than a minute- cost 1GBP

4/ Sent money from UK to France ( Eur) -cost £1

5/ Received money in GBP from IRL ( EUR)

If paying for utility bills / expenses overseas - to known friends / even yourself - bank accounts overseas - this seems perfect - so far

I've used TransferWise a couple of times to transfer to a Visa card in Russia. Not as quick as the option here, but works well too and for extremely low fees compared to banks, WU, MoneyGram etc.

And surely if you have desperate relatives to feed and for example you live in the Uk you would just go to Lloyds Bank open a account with two cards and send one to who ever needs regular money.. costs nearly zero.. and they just go take cash from Bankomat

Or maybe Im just stupid and people here are talking about transferring millions.. ;D

Great... a UK card that is useless for many online systems in Russia ..that costs money every time you withdraw cash

Correct, I misread. About time you posted something useful instead of bickering anyway. Carry on.  tiphat

Meanwhile, to keep this topic on track, Steve's side topic of WHY people need to send money to the FSU is now >>here<<.

Markje,

I'm probably going to be put on a 'sanctions list'  for this, but WHY wouldn't this work..?

Does the sending bank know the 'address' of a receiving ( say) Sberbank client who just got their VISA number ? !!!!

Because they do not work together with Crimean banks (last summer, no russian bank operated there yet, no sberbank even)

'Gen bank' and 'Russian national Commercial Bank' ATMs on Crimea allow the operation of Sberbank cards - so simply get M-i-L a prepaid Sberbank card and send her the money to THAT !

Update:

Last week someone was trying to send ME - money via Paysend and the moment they hit the number 4 ( Visa) a msg appeared saying they was a problem - to use another payment card !

So they sent me money to my IBAN number in the UK - using transferwise and it took 24 hours to appear in my account ..

I tried to send money to Georgia and Russia and hit the same issue - then it suddenly worked in the evening

THIS week I hit some EU 'money laundering prevention' limit and waited THREE days for the ( normally three hours ) to allow my transfer ...   THEN when it gets there - Sberbank's online system had a problem   ..GRRR

Oh, the joys of moving money  between countries.

Why can I normally send money to Russia in seconds  and yet it takes longer to the UK / Cyprus / Georgia !

Because despite all your protestations to the contrary Russia is a well run country.  :chuckle:
