Well I do very much like the styling of the Range Rover but the previously poor reliability record and high maintenance costs would give me pause.

The Sport is more unreliable than the Full Fat. The L322 shape per the video had by the time it was launched evolved into a superb car, I have had no issues at all with mine to date. The newer L405 shape has had a few niggles that warranty and redesign will iron out. The interiors are pretty nice too, Clarksons was a bit ho hum but they look way better in two tone. This is mine.

I know you will say the interiors are plastic but for reliability and a reasonable sticker price I like the GMC mid sized Acadia Denali SUV. I also very much like the BMW 5 series SUV which as I recall Gypsy has one.

I like a lot of US SUVs for appearance actually, but they dont do interiors so well as you note. But they are good value for money but lack cachet over here. I recall seeing some US SUVs in Russia though. I've never been a BMW fan myself although I have no particular reason for having arrived at that opinion.

I wouldn’t hesitate to get the new Bentley SUV.

I think the Bentayga is quite ugly with a daft name. They'll probably sell alright in Russia too (to the middle class Seasoned says dont exist even though there is a dealership on his doorstep at Gelsingforsskaya Str).

1989 VW Golf MK2 CL 1.8 Auto RHD for Sale. Has always passed MOT and runs very smoothly. 103,000 miles in very good condition, inside and out, especially for the age!

Alloys and new battery. Owed since 2004, from my MIL who used since new. I have the log with all services, very reliable and fun to drive especially on motorways when some asshole follows me, bip  and then tries to over take.....I put my foot down and I see him disappearing on my mirror.

How much should I sell it for?

Manny probably can tell me how much to sell it for, as he is the expert!

Mark I recall has a BMW sports sedan.  I've always liked the 5 series, especially the M5 which retails for 102K in the USA.

My son has a GTI version of this car, same year - he believes he can drive it to 250,000 miles easily. One on the great features there are relatively few electronics attached to the car.

It is a highly functional vehicle that drives quite well. If I was Wiz I would keep on enjoying it, something like your wife, pleasing on the eye, no surprises and works well.

Now if Wiz wants to upgrade he needs to speak to Steve or look at a Koenigsegg.

One of my all time favorite 4 wheel drive vehicles is the Toyota 4Runner. Toyota has fantastic reliability and excellent quality. Anyone who has been to remote countries knows that Toyota is the number 1 choice for trucks and SUV’s. A mechanic I know says they had to stop making the T100 as it was so reliable it was costing them money! 

The 4Runner is 100% made in Japan; I like that as I really believe they take great pride in making a product with outstanding quality over there.

There is an older version of Top Gear (assuming we are speaking of the same platform) where I think the take a 4Runner pick up onto a beach and leave it at low tide and than drag 24 hours latter drag it back ashore wash it off and restart the vehicle.

It remains the vehicle of choice for African militias to mount a machine gun to. It is one of the very few Japanese vehicles that are epic.

EDIT: No I am wrong the vehicle that I am thinking is the pick up version of the Land Cruiser. I think it is called a Tacoma statewise.

The RAV4 was best as in best reliability or did you mean to say worst? I would find that very difficult to believe. Also the RAV4 is not the 4Runner they are entirely different.

The Toyota 4Runner and the Chevy Suburban would be my favorite picks for an SUV. Been in both and own a Suburban... both great autos for on and off highway (with the exception that the Suburban’s fuel economy is not great, but when you need to tow you need to tow).

I rented a Suburban last time I was in FL and it was enormous. I really enjoyed it though.

Did you rent the Rolls Royce?  I’ll be impressed when you purchase the Bentley SUV brand new. Six months to a year old with mileage on it doesn’t count. Only brand new. When you can afford to lose some residual as you drive off the lot is when you’ve made it. 

I’ll cash my chips in in ten years. By then they’ll probably have flying cars.
