For over a week now there has been news reports of the spread of the Ebola virus in central Africa, primarily the Congo. It has now moved from the country side to a major city.
Has anyone seen any reports in Europe or is this situation not interesting enough for the news. Oddly enough M. Savage in the last out break raved on what a doomsday issue this was going to be, blaming Obama for not doing enough.
I think at some point Ebola will run wild across the world. It is a disease that will flourish when it hits areas where there is no natural resistance to it at all. It flourishes now even where folks have fought it for years and have some resistance to it.
Influenza crossed the continents in 1918 via slow travel like steamships and before the pandemic was over the world lost by some estimates 100 million humans. This was just the flu. It was spread by much less efficient and frequent world travel than we have today.
Now we are talking Ebola, a much more deadly disease. We are talking travel by jets, not steamships. We are talking many refugees from different parts of the world entering new countries and carrying diseases with them.
Sooner or later it will become the next pandemic in the opinion of many researchers. I am no scientist, but I believe they are right. High speed travel, unrestricted travel, undocumented entry to countries and a virtually untreatable contagious illness are the makings of doomsday for sure.
