Terrible tragedy with so many children involved.

Don't shoot the messenger, links to articles posted, don't necessarily reflect my personal opinion.

Awful, hearing about non-functioning fire extinguishers and locked fire exits.

Such scant regard for human life, third world state....

Sad to hear about this. Apparently this mall featured a zoo... quite family / child oriented. Hope they find all the missing.

I once remember a HUGE production plant owned by Lucent in Huizen/Netherlands.

It had clearly marked yellow lines on the floor, I asked what they were.

"Escape plan" lines sir, just follow the line and you should reach emergency exits nearest to you soon.

Me: So why is this huge machine bolted to the floor right on top of it & the emergency exit locked?

The plant is too small , we're using space where we can.

Morale of the story:
Don't blame the state or upper management for poor decisions of lower management / city workers.

Thats a good thing about UK - some people see it has health and safety madness, espevially the Tories who want to reduce it as its eating into their massive profits, look at Greenfell.

In Russia i was nearly sucked into a jet engine, you could just walk under the wing. I was running to board, last one on, dicked me about for 150 rbls of excess baggage, still got the reams of paperwork i was given, that alone must have cost more than 3 quid

I think you're being a tad too extreme here Ste.

I wouldn't describe Russia as being a 3rd world state with scant regard for human life. I suspect this is more about a lack of civil servants with a bit of clout and a culture lacking a bit of education in healthy & safety. Unless its drummed into you, people given a free reign always expect bad stuff to happen to other people. Hopefully this is a wake up call and lessons are learned in Russia.

I could give you many examples about how pathetic, ridiculous and resource draining our PC/H&S culture has become in the UK. I'd sound a bit silly blaming it all on Labour though.

As expected, the normal reaction to such an atrocity has taken place in Russia. This suggests that Russians do in fact value life, as we do in the West.

Russian crowd condemns officials over disaster, as people rallied outside local government buildings seeking justice.

Is this more 3rd world than say Greenfell?

However sad that may be, firefighters will rescue noone if they die themselves because of ignoring regulations.

That’s hilarious. If I’m not mistaken, that’s the BBC’s font?

Reported elsewhere as well.

Some even saying it was deliberate to deflect away from the hole Putin is digging for himself.
