The hurricane can be seen from outer space.

The projected path has changed and Hurricane Florence is now moving towards Florence, SC.   :-\  It could drop to Category 1 when it hits the coast.  But the storm surge will still be there.  Most of the deaths are from water, not wind.  The greater than 10 feet wave of water is far more deadly than being blown across town.   :scared0005:

It looks like Florence is parked and taking a toll on the Carolinas. The people of the Carolinas are paying the fine. I suspect there will be deaths and most will be inland. It usually is not the wind that kills but the rain, storm surge and flooding.

There was a song N. Diamond 'Caroline something'.

For what it is worth presently there are three more tropical disturbances in the Atlantic/Gulf of Mexico. They are not expected to effect the United States.

2 deaths have been reported from the NC area.

I read an article about options to break apart the hurricane to stop it from moving into land.  A suggestion was to nuke it.  Fallout will be a major issue.  Also, the energy from the storm is similar to a HUGE nuclear bomb.  So detonating a nuclear bomb will be like a "pin prick".  Another suggestion was to "cool it down", so that the energy source would be removed.  With the size of the storm, it would be very hard to muster enough material out to the middle of the ocean to cool the water.  Also, seeding the clouds was suggested.  This was tried many years ago.  It hardly made any impact.  If this is due to global warming, then the only viable option is to "de-industrialize" and return back to pre-20th century.   :chuckle: (:)

The Carolinas are not doing well, they are in my prayers. I fear the death toll will be higher when the storm passes. In parts of the Carolinas over a foot of rain has fallen and on Thursday and Wednesday there were reports of 60 + foot high waves offshore from reporting buoys.

I have seen on forums, discussion groups some bizarre suggestions including the above from DCguy. It sort of confirms anyone with internet can prove to themselves to be an expert.

The concept of 'seeding' hurricanes has been tried in fact, with no success some 30 years ago. The tests have given reign to numerous conspiracy theories that are quite quaint. Everything from the Soviets to the Illumanti, you know the guys on the dollar bill. As I understand the underlying science has merit.

Now 4 reported dead in NC area.  The super typhoon hitting the Philippines and Hong Kong this weekend looks even worse than Florence.   :scared0005: :hidechair:

Yes I have seen this. These are regions with poor infrastructure and little advance warning.

The most vulnerable area though is the Indian Ocean nations, and in particular Bangladesh.
