Movie: Red Sparrow
« on: March 03, 2018, 08:17:06 AM »
I went and saw this movie last night - pretty good actually.

Jennifer Lawrence is an absolute babe!  "Dominika" reminded me a bit of Manny's lovely wife!   tiphat

The story was compelling and interesting.

The cinematography of the scenes in Moscow was really good and I'd actually been to several of the places that were filmed in Moscow - especially the Bolshoi.

Give it a look when it opens in your area.  You'll be entertained.

Considering the movies the "critics" are nominating for academy awards, I justifiably don't put much trust in reviews.

It certainly was a suspense thriller and people with an interest in Russia would absolutely find it entertaining.

Naw... she looks NOTHING like Mrs Manny

Well they both have blonde hair and are attractive females - that's something isn't it?

If you liked the movie then you’ll probably like the book even more. I read it about two years ago. Will probably see the movie later today. ????

Poor robot. A critic tells him what movie to watch and the BBC tells him how to think and vote.  :chuckle:

Bad accents, preposterous story line. We watched McMafia as well, neither of us liked that, was well rank.

The only thing I hate about story lines, is if supposedly intelligent characters make *Exceptionally stupid* decisions in the script.

For instance take the sci-fi alien flick "Prometheus".

- The cartographer gets lost inside the alien space-ship (LOL)
- The biologist sees a bunch of large dead aliens whom died in agony. Meets a little critter thats alive.... "HOW Cute!" ... my first instinct would be "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES"
- Same biologist feels sick, has unprotected sex with her boyfriend anyway (LOL)
- etc.

I turned it off halfway through because I was so tired with those stupid decisions.

And here is the Feminist view from a UK tabloid -

Nauseating...

Watched it last night on the ferry - HD-CAM rip - piss poor rip, piss poor film. Review pretty accurate. It's no secret that Jennifer and I are in a long distance relationship - I long for her from a distance.....

Things were going well between us before the exclusion order too.....

She gave me her phone number, only when I tried to dial it back home I realised '4' was maybe not a real mobile number. Not long enough, some digits missing I suspect. That's her way of playing hard to get.

This pretty much explains why you need to watch/do something yourself, to form an opinion.

I’ve got McMafia on the planner, yet to watch. Everyone I spoke to raves about it.

I saw the movie last night and agree with Shakespeare that it’s a pretty good movie. The pace of the movie is very slow and this might be the problem for modern reviewers. It’s definitely a movie which is enjoyable on the big screen as the cinematography is excellent. The ballet scenes are really nice and later after the accident when her lover leaves her one sees why her Uncle chose her.

The book is better and key locations are different as well as what the Russians do to Dominika when she is suspected.

Be advised there is a torture scene which was very uncomfortable to watch.

The movie has a twist as to who the Russian mole is which was clever and enjoyable and also shows how ruthless Dominika is.

The article by a “feminist” which Leslie linked above is entirely off. The character of Dominika is a strong woman who very much thinks for herself and fights back as much as any human in her situation possibly could. I rather doubt if that reviewer actually watched the movie.

It’s truly a shame that many women allow “feminists” to determine what they see and how they think.

Initially it seems the movie might be set in the Soviet Union but it’s actually set in modern day Russia. The slow pace of the movie would have been apropos for the Soviet period prior to cell phones and laptops.

3 stars out of 5 is my rating.

As an alternative choice in the spy genre Atomic Blond with Charliz Theron is much faster paced, better written and rates 5 stars out of 5.

I don't listen to the movie critics either. They
love every movie with a brokeback mountain
theme to it and don't like movies that normal
people like.

Also watching movies with any Russian theme
in it with a Russian woman who loves to point
out any mistakes is a challenge as well.

I read the book which are usually better than
the movie but I will check it out.
