I have encountered and seen on Youtube "false" homeless people before who would make placards with "Please help. God Bless." Then followed them back to their vehicles after they had made their collections from various people on the street. I am not saying all homeless people are like that, but there are a few who just want to take advantage of the good nature of people.

There was this one homeless man I talked to for a minute or so about some jobs he could apply for. I told him about the many restaurants, lawn care business, and other low skill jobs that were hiring that he could do to make a living. He got mad and shouted "I don't want to work!"

Oh well, you can't help people who do not want to help themselves. 


Your story about the Spanish homeless guy reminds me of the performing guitar players in the streets of Nashville trying to get some extra money, get a gig at a bar, or even a record deal. I was last in Nashville around 2005. I can't believe that was 12 years ago. 

Do you think there is a tavern or other venue in Ireland that would hire him to perform music for their business? There is so much competition in the career musician field that it is hard to make a living, though.

Close the business and give the staff a pay off so they feel no pain.

A month or so in California or somewhere nice to have a little think.

Probably followed by nice house in the Cotswolds (if American think the Hamptons) with a pool and a gym, private schools for the kids, the new Range Rover my wife wants and a new Rolls Royce or Range Rover for me.

Bit of travel I guess........ I could manage a couple of years travelling.

After a couple of years I'd likely be bored and start another business of some kind. I had some money and took a few years off work in the early naughties and eventually I got bored so went and did something new.

As anyone who has had some money will tell you, perhaps you like £300 shoes or designer clothes. How many pairs or outfits do you need? You'll soon grow bored of buying apparel. How many cars do you need? A few rich guys I know have four or five, two or three of which they seldom drive. I know a guy who uses his new Ferrari about three times a month as his Range Rover is more useful day to day. So a guy will buy a few watches, a few trinkets, etc. A few months of that you'll have everything you want. A yacht around the Med? You'll be bored in a couple of weeks. What next?

Big money is actually hard to spend if you have ever had money. Unless you spend it on nonsense that has no value or point. You only need so much to live a very good life.

The freedom to do what you want is what money buys you. And doing what you want often doesn't cost that much.

It'd take nothing like $750 million to get my life changed. But I can't imagine not working. On the other hand, simply looking after such a sum is time consuming. Maybe not so much if a single source, as in a lottery win but more normally, several income streams, even if largely passive, will keep one busy enough.

For capital protection guarantees only, you'd have to spread that around every bank in several countries to manage a fraction of it safely. Imagine having that lot in Northern Rock or Landsbanki Guernsey a few years ago?

You'd end up buying property, and then people to run and manage it, simply to safeguard the capital and provide a modest return.

Making that much money work and remain intact would be a job in and of itself. You'd have to buy stuff, then hire people to look after the stuff. Then you'd buy stuff abroad, and hire people there. Then you'd hire someone to oversee the people you hired.......

Family friend was a sister of the lead singer one of the greatest bands ever. When he died she got part, just part, of the royalty revenues. They both worked, responsible positions, well paid jobs. They had to give up work in order to manage their new, ongoing, wealth stream. I guess that they could've done what big brother did: shovel the money up his nose and leave the rest to money managers, but not their thing. I haven't seen 'em for years, neither did anyone else in the family.

You have the option of a one time lump sum or annual payments over 30 years. Top financial advisors have recommended the lump sum even with the double tax as investing yourself in most cases will provide more profit than Uncle Sam doing so for you. It is reported that police has had to monitor near her home due to her winning the jackpot.  Will probably need to hire bodyguards or mafia hit men.

It has nothing to do with credit. You can take a lump sum payment of I guess $450,000,000 or an annuity of 30 or maybe 29 payments once a year for the full amount. From the payout taxes are deducted. The winner a woman was from Taxasschusetts so that is an additional payment/deduction.

I would just spread the money over several banks live on the interest that will do me, I wouldn't need no business, business advice , investments or any of that stuff.

Just a 20 million yacht. I would hire a captain and one crew member. Thats it then spend 5/10 years cruising the world visiting every port. NO one would have my number so NO one can contact me..(Not that I have many friends anyway  )

You might be surprised to find that at least one state lottery in the Home of the Brave is now defaulting on lottery payouts. No longer able to meet its commitment to winners even with payments on the drip.

I suspect Andrew is referring to Illinois and the suspension is temporary. The monies are there in an escrow account, but the State is locked in a fierce political battle between the legislature and Goveneur and thus lacks an official budget. I suspect it is indeed affecting payments for the State lottery. Not nationwide 'games' such as Powerball and MegaMillions as I understand.
