Many people (Russians always did by a large majority) are now using Yandex to escape Google's clutches.

REALLY ?  Once again, you simply cannot have been in Russia, recently ..... Nearly all of the folks I correspond with have gmail accounts - use google's voice app - in Russian / English to find info.

Ironically, I use yandex for hosting my domains and email and yandex navigator - as it is the most accurate - re Russia - even if it occasionally tells me to exit a motorway - as I pass it - no warning
;)

What planet are you on?

Most Russians I know use mail.ru/inbox.ru/rambler.ru etc. for email. Always have, always will.

And as to market dominance, try this:

Quote from: Wiki
Yandex currently has a market share of over 65% in Russia's search engine market by traffic, although the company itself suggested it had a market share in Russia of 55.4% in Quarter 4 of 2016. Yandex' main competitors on the Russian market are Google, Mail.ru and Rambler.

To "Google" is not a verb in Russia.

Even by other measures, Google is not dominant: http://gs.statcounter.com/search-engine-market-share/all/russian-federation

Go ply your anti-Russian propaganda somewhere else.  (:)

Indeed, they laughed at this and this back in the day. They are not laughing now. We could all see it coming one way or another.

I certainly laughed - as the conclusions in the first link were ill-researched and the whole exercise was to coincide with the launch of as 'new format of dating site'  - with the author of said 'report on the demise of the Russian Bride' .

As pointed out then, the BIG change was that FSU ladies didn't need 'Marriage Agencies' - they could write their own profiles - had their own access to the internet and the perceived 'seediness' of the 'Mail order Bride' and pay per letter sites - and the arrival of new DIRECT business models - with less profit for the site owners in arranging apartments, etc., and sites like this means the guy that actually gets on the plane doesn't need as much 'hand-holding'.

The schism in RU-UA relations and war, plus the knowledge that life in the west is not always rosy means that the market contracted, too

Only someone who doesn't go to Russia / Ukraine would suggest that there isn't a market for FSU women seeking a western guy - even Steveboy and I agree on this ;)

Yes its all I can agree with you on... nothing else. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't turn you in to the FSB at the first chance I get...

There are plenty of FSU women still looking for a Western guy, we advertise in Yandex and have good search positions In Google.. 35/38  -40/50 year old women are registering non stop all day, I don't see that changing for a few years. But for the young women under 35 that is over for sure!! Young women especially educated ones have a far better life in Russia than they could ever have in Europe...Lots of my wife's friends would have to take a life style down grade moving to Europe. Young Russian women to marry its over already!! No one ever did claim my $1000 reward for marrying a young one, so Im taking it back tonight towards a holiday...

I do not know about the rest of the world, but my girlfriend in Ukraine changed from ru to g mail about 6 months ago.
3) There has been no "threat" to invade Ukraine. The US invented that and fed it to a complicit media.

Well, you ( clearly ) aren't LIVING amongst them ...

You know what they say about 'stats' ?)

http://www.ewdn.com/2016/06/07/google-surpasses-yandex-in-monthly-audience-in-russia/

Google surpasses Yandex in monthly audience in Russia - taken from a specialists in Digital media in Russia - June 2016

To "Google" is not a verb in Russia.

:chuckle:  You REALLY do need to visit ....  LOTS of Internet English is creeping into Russian sentences...  I admit I'm meeting more geeky, English speaking Russians, but I think you are labouring on past experience.

Even by other measures, Google is not dominant: http://gs.statcounter.com/search-engine-market-share/all/russian-federation

Hmm..

Go ply your anti-Russian propaganda somewhere else.  (:)

As I said, *I* use yandex - heavily - for domains and email - I'm perfectly happy with them.

I've just left my Russian partner's side in bed to be entertained by your nonsense as I eat my Kasha and then I'm off to evaluate the 2nd prototype Russian engineers and programmers have made for me from British designed hardware in a car bought on a Russian banks finance with my contributions... As I go sailing on the Black Sea - with my Russian friends - I may allow myself a wry smile at your need to control the truth ;)

This will shock you, but when it comes to city life in Piter / Moscow you MIGHT have a point ... But you don't see where many of these lasses call home to at night ..

HOWEVER, when it comes to regional cities and smaller towns - I disagree.

HOWEVER, when it comes to regional cities and smaller towns - I disagree.

In St Petersburg New housing blocks are going up all the time and they are all filling up, there are huge complexes the size of small towns all over the place, you will be surprised how many young people have brand new apartments! My developer has two apartments bought for cash, most friends here all live in pretty new places. Most of my wife's friends have bought their own places in Moscow. There are a few schemes to help the young buy new places if they are starting a family. Young women do not all go back to shabby Soviet style apartments, lots has changed over the last few years. New apartments are not expensive in caparison to Western Europe and its pretty easy for youngsters with a reasonable income to buy. We have two studio apartments for the kids when they start Uni here :) Could never do that in the uk!

Youngsters in the bigger cities can earn the same if not more than they probably would in Western Europe, one reason why young women no longer feel the need to find a foreign guy..

For example a web developer in Moscow can expect to earn pretty easy 200,000 roubles a month..

https://spb.hh.ru/vacancy/22274007

Our developer has several big clients and takes double that!

We have a young women do graphics , she has a brand new place in a nice complex..as i said before just a few nights out in the city and you will see much has changed for young people in Russia if you have a reasonable education..well I think and see any way!

The MOB business might be getting a reprieve, with a huge tax
on sex robots. The punters who would never get on a plane can
keep pouring money into the Pay Per View Pay by the letter sites
because buying a robot could become expensive.
