Sightseeing in Russia.
« on: August 16, 2017, 07:30:30 PM »
I come across many different articles about lesser known places of interest in Russia, so this thread will be for anything interesting to see while in Russia.

Amazing! - thank you

There is a small problem not one of the noted buildings are in Russia proper.

For me this article is interesting ... I'm not an architect - but like viewing bridges from above, below and ON..

I've done the Golden Gate, The Golden Horn ( Istanbul) and many UK bridges of historical note...

No.8 in this article:

https://www.rbth.com/arts/2017/07/24/from-neva-to-the-amur-russias-top-10-most-impressive-bridges_809655

is something else...  I DIDN'T see it from below on my first two attempts as it was in the clouds...

You can bungee jump from it ... I am giving THAT a miss ...

Why not?

I thought nr.1 (Krasnodar) was in Russia.
I thought nr.2 (Kaliningrad) was in Russia.
I thought nr.4 (Novi Karachai) was in Russia.

Kaliningrad is part of Russia isn’t it, albeit an exclave.

Formerly Königsberg, differs from most Russian cities by being quite attractive....

Correct and using this logic New Amsterdam is still part of the The United Provinces now The Netherlands.

NB: I think there is a thread regarding Kaliningrad on RUA, it has a fascinating history.

Are you telling us that "The Greek Church of Saint John the Baptist, (I was given his name when baptised,) in Kerch is not Russian or RF?

As usual you are talking bolloxs! Stop trying to twist History....... to suit your anti-Russian Narrative.

Get it  in your brain.... Crimea was a Greek Colony, under the name "Tavris", fell in the hands of the Ottoman Empire and in 1783 the Russians won the war with the Ottoman Empire and took over Tavris. Ever since it has been an independent Republic, and was never governed bu the KIEV admin. During USSR years in 1953 Nikita Khrushchev transfered the administration to Kiev, as an Independent Republic.  The people there 90+% are Russians and 10 % Tatars, which Staling exiled them in Siberia.

Now it is Russian again, all done officially under the UN articles about self determination and verified by the German NGO, "German Center for Eurasian Studies"

Here is the statement of Manuel Ochsenreiter leader of the German party AfD.

Q: But why are not OSCE, EU or UN conducting such missions?

R– "For these organizations such missions are problematic."

Q: Why?

R:–" Let me give you an example: Let us say the OCSE would have observed the Crimean referendum in March 2014, and let us say the OSCE observers would have reported that the referendum was conducted in a correct way respecting international standards. In that moment the international community wouldn’t have had any choice but to accept the reunification of Crimea with Russia as a result of a legal democratic decision of the population of Crimea."

Q: But what is the problem about that?

R: – The so called “international community”, which is dominated by Washington, Brussels, London and Paris, is far from accepting results of democratic processes which doesn’t fit in their geopolitical patterns. They want Ukraine as a type of “anti-Russia”, as a Western front-line-entity. In the eyes of the West, the change of Crimea from Ukraine to the arch enemy Russia is absolutely inacceptable. Today Crimea suffers under the special Western sanctions, no business with EU countries is permitted, nothing. Of course the West did everything possible to prevent the process of the Crimean reunification with Russia, but that failed. When it was clear that neither the OSCE nor any other huge international body would be willing to observe the referendum, another international observation was organized within a short time. Many politicians from Europe came to Crimea to witness and review the procedures of the referendum. Most of these politicians come from Eurosceptic groups and parties from the right and the left. Again: Neither the Crimean nor the Russian authorities refused an OSCE observation, in contrary – they invited them. But after OSCE refused, an alternative international observation mission was organized.

So Putin, officially stick it up your ex Gay President's back side, one more time.... and it hurts you!

Read the comments at the end of the article.... you will love them!

Finally: HAVE YOU EVER VISITED CRIMEA?

If you did you should know all that.  :evilgrin0002:

Wiz, I am not rewriting or twisting anything. The Krim has been the 'property' of the Greeks, the Turks and others through time. The Tartars, Russians, English and Germans have fought and died there as well as others.

Sorry I have still not visited the Krim.

You can read elsewhere that I am suspect of the present United States President, but he is better that the other possible alternative. Is he gay, I will assume you know better than me.

Av. it becomes clear that something is not right with you. You cannot discuss any subject, objectively, without making a spin to a different direction from the main subject and narrative we discus, by trying to madd the waters like throwing into the equation also the other nations that fought on the Crimea war. The fact remains, as I have already stated in my previous reply. Without examining everything that took place at that war, ...... Finally, after the capitulation of the Ottoman Empire/occupier in 1783, Crimea became part of the Russian Empire.

Just for your information I have visited Crimea 3 times and learned a lot about it's history and its people.

Obviously your brain is programmed and you cannot read correctly.

I pointed out to you also to read the members comments at the bottom of the article, where one person make the "Gay" comments about the previous President and not Trump as you write.

Stop winding the sycophants up ;)  Your missus' Tank City might not be St Piter or Paris but there ARE some attractive cities in Russia .... I may even spend much of my time in one..

'Attractive'? - check out the 'House of Soviets' - a twenty storey building built and never occupied as it is unstable - built on a network of caves

No, the Ottoman Empire agreed to Imperial Russia taking over the Crimea in 1774  Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca - Russia annexed it in 1783 - it had already forcibly removed Pontian Greeks off the peninsula .....
