Oh, please... As if it's the same thing as home-made one  (:)

Just saying!!

I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot barge pole.

Once had borscht in a non-Russian restaurant in Leeds, it was awful, basically beetroot slop.

There’s a Russian restaurant in Dublin City centre, not very good, they had fried pelmeni, some Lithuanian variant. Horrible.

Ah, ok then!  ;D It's probably full harmful ingredients. There was something i liked in Moscow though - you could buy done fresh veggies for borsch (like you buy fresh salad), it saves the time for peeling and chopping.  :)

Eew.  :duh:

They sell them here now (not Lithuanian), but i didn't find my fave - with salmon. The rest (of what's available here) i can't eat because it's pork. So, i make my own from time to time  :) Last time i made  беляши (English? Fried minced meat small pies? )))) those were yummy...
I feel hungry after this conversation   :hidechair:

Problem is that anything made with beets tastes of soil.
Soil is not a nice taste.
There's a reason that babies grow out of their taste for soil.
Borscht is the ultimate in peasant food. Like most peasant food it consists of root vegetables, often preserved.
Borscht goes the next step of tasting of what it was grown in.

You have probably been immunised against tasting soil by virtue of having eaten it on your food as a kid. Mind you putting earth on your spuds seems a little bit 'we lived in a cardboard box and thought we were lucky' - ish.

Luxury.

Soil were for well-off folk. All we had were sediment off mud, grandad’s toenail clippings and cat vomit. All on a barm with gravy.

But we were happy.

Soil is not a nice taste.

The organic ones from Waitrose/Ocado taste excellent.

Poles love the taste of beetroot. Especially the taste of beetroot soup. Unfortunately, this taste is so unique that such a rarity is only available in Poland.

The problem with beetroot is the murder scene left behind in the preparation and the fright you get on the toilet the next day......

Nope, no problem. If the women want to have salad made with the stuff they can buy it from the shop. I am willing to give house room to that stuff with beetroot, eggs and fish in layers. The rest, leave it at the door please and no prepping in my kitchen thank you!

Well the fact that beetroot soup is only available in the land of the Pos will be a surprise to hundreds of millions of people. Somebody should tell them that only Poles can have the stuff.

We were so poor I had no clothes at all until I was nine. Then my dad bought me a cap so I could look out of the window.....

I'd like to thank the late Eric Sykes for that joke, Owdum Lad, wrote a lot of stuff for Spike Milligan, also the late, who was a genius in my book....

He wanted 'I told you I was ill' on his gravestone, and I well remember him on This Is Your Life saying these two gems about someone on it...

"He's written over 300 songs - all crap"

and

"He started at the bottom - and stayed there..."

Best I ever had was in Cyprus...    Before Gazprom came along and swallowed up smaller Russian Gas companies - 'or else' - there was a wonderful Russian Gas Company Restaurant in Limassol - they employed great cooks from Latvia, Ukraine and Armenia ..it was a matter of pride and constant competition to produce the best for the bosses

I have never claimed to be a Blue Beret

Spurious claims about 'seeing action' with the Blue Berets are debunked >here<

Funny but while I thought Eric Sykes a hugely funny bloke I could never get a hard on for Spike Milligan.
