I met a girl on the street today and I think we will be meeting for a drink. She speaks very little English and I speak little Russian or Ukrainian. What are some ideas for having a fun date in spite of the language barrier?

Take an English/Russian phrasebook, go to a restaurant, try to converse using the phrasebook. Hopefully she will have one of her own so you can have a two way conversation.

After the meal and took much to drink take her back to your place and have sex.

Rinse/repeat until you get fed up with food and fukking as a substitute for life and building a relationship.

Some people get married in this way. I reckon it makes for a good weekend every now and again.

I would get a translator for a couple of hours. You can find one on the internet. The last one I hired was 500 uah  per hour. After two hours lose her and do what ever the two of you decided while you had translator. That would be around 40 dollars.

Also you can do an internet search of the city your in and see what comes up. Many actives in the Ukraine are on the internet now.

Pretend its not there and improvise.

I did that and it was fun. Then buy her english tutor if you like her a lot

No need to buy her English tutor. In most places one can pay them by the hour.

At dinner, if menu is in English, make sure she can distinguish tomatoes from potatoes, and knows that "hot" means spicy.
It's just in case, to keep her happy.  :)
After dinner, it is the best to go to listen to the music and dance.
Ask her for a food tour to know the taste of Russia.
For example, you can have amazingly delicious ice-cream on boat, excellent cake before you go to watch ballet, and, finally, great local wine before you go to bed.
Have fun!!!

I can talk English into my cell and it translates it and talks Russian back only with a female's voice. It really is amazing.

I would recommend getting an audio translator device.  Alternatively, hiring a translator guide would be my second choice, but of course, it makes for a "third wheel" on the date.

If you need a translator my first reaction is that the woman is not an appropriate choice.

I dispute that. My wife had poor English, 11 years later her sales position here is let's say, kicking goals.

The lack of a shared language is workable but I suspect success comes down to intelligence, education and both parties being extremely eager. There's possibly more but in my opinion those three are the holy grail.

My wife spoke very little english on our first date and I ended up staying with her for 5 days. Of course it was frustrating at times because you couldn't really have a deep meaningful conversation but for a first meeting, I think its just as important to have a connection and fun. I recall all sorts of written notes, pictures, hand signs and improvisation going on and we had a ball.

If you don't like each other it'll probably be your worst date ever.

So, after topic drift, the best, viable, on topic suggestion meeting the set constraints is the first suggestion.

I hope that the OP had a good time.

Not a big surprise in such a situation. :)

Can I make a suggestion?

Dating is a kind of sales process, yes I know that some, perhaps many, might disagree, but they'd be wrong to do so. :)

Thus, the process is one of increasing commitment and trust with the goal that both parties will end up with something that they want (or think they want!)

So, a jump from random encounter to one on one 'date' is a big one, especially when the other person is not in the mental frame of meeting people or choosing dating partners. That's why pulling in a nightclub is always WAAAAY easier than getting a date from a random bird on the street. In a club, there's a good chance that she is in the same mental frame as you are.

For that reason, if you want to get a date with a random bird on the street don't shoot straight for the meeting. Instead, suggest a coffee RIGHT NOW. Prepare yourself by being situationally aware enough to already know where you can go - the nearest place to you. This isn't about quality but about bridging the void between complete stranger and date mate. If she will have a coffee with you, right now, and you share a laugh or two then getting the commitment for a date is a given, assuming she isn't already in a relationship that precludes such a thing!

In part, that's why I suggested as I did. A low commitment, low impact bit of time leading to a shag - and let's be right, the bird who is up for a date with a stranger is already open minded and a bit of a risk taker. She's unlikely to go all 'shy virgin' on you!

On second dates I usually bring a computer and go someplace where they have Wi-fi. I use Bing translator. It is mazing how much fun you can have with this. Also learn a few Russian words or more. If you can tease here with a few Russian words if make the evening a lot more fun.

You make some excellent points. I did have two of those RIGHT NOW dates last weekend. In the first case she did not want further communication. In the second, she did. She contacted me later and wanted to meet but she wasn't really my cup of tea.
