Banks in Russia
« on: April 14, 2017, 01:18:23 AM »
I've been happy with the Raiffeisen Bank, but the -very- local branch has closed and the nearest 'bankomat' where one can take dosh without a charge will be 20 mins away:(

I liked that it had w.European owners, whether that was a sane way to choose a bank - I don't know - but now I must look for a convenient branch.

Locally, we have Alpha, Sber - Kremlin controlled - VTB.  Slioghtly more distant... Ruski Standart ( not the Vodka)

I just want to be able to sent GBP to Russia ( Raiffeisen allows a GBP account ) and convert to local currency to pay bills online.

I have never claimed to be a Blue Beret

Spurious claims about 'seeing action' with the Blue Berets are debunked >here<

Why don't you just get a Yandex MasterCard:) And anyway what is wrong with a 20 minute walk?? To old and lazy to manage it?... well if you can't manage a 20 min walk every now and again how are you going to manage to have some kind of sex life in a few years?...

1/ I don't want to pay a feee to load / take out dosh

2/ 20 mins walking is 20 mins wasted for the other activity you mentioned ..

3/ The most important criteria was the GBP account part ...  Will  look at Rosbank - part of the Societie Generale Group  in France - on Monday

Sberbank does everything you need it to do.
Read a trip report from North Korea >>here<< - Read a trip report from South Korea, China and Hong Kong >>here<<

Look what the American media makes some people believe:
Putin often threatens to strike US with nuclear weapons.

Thanks, I prefer the semblance of a w.European bank - not the first one likely to have problems in the west .  I do appreciate it has a branch on every corner - but on a Friday night - it has the longest queues as people are paying in their wages ;)

I stuck with the Raiffeisen - as the nearby Supermarket has installed one of their machines and they are by far - the fastest to receive GBP and transfer it to roubles
