Movie "Bitter Harvest"
« on: March 04, 2017, 11:57:00 AM »
Went last night to see the new movie release, "Bitter Harvest".  It tells the "Hollywoodized" story based on The Holodomor; the famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine and how Stalin took all the agricultural products from that region and sent them back to Russia causing between 7 and 10 million Ukrainians to starve to death.

The acting is good, the story compelling and reasonably historically accurate but a bit depressing.  The photography of rural life in Ukraine is pretty authentic.  I'd say if you are married to a woman from Ukraine, definitely take her to see this movie.  If you are married to a lady from Russia and take her to see it, she may well deny it ever happened.

Manny will no doubt call it "blatant propaganda"   :hidechair:

But if you are interested in former FSU history and culture, it is a "must see" movie.
