The niece of Front National leader Marine Le Pen gives a scathing rebuke to the "has-been feminists" and "political dinosaurs" haunting French parliament

Le Pen, will not win

She might - like her Dad - get through to the second round - even could win the first round

The Second round will see the her opponent get the votes of the defeated candidate from the first round..

We STILL don't know if the former Thatcherite - Fillon will stand - due to a financial scandal - so it looks like the Centrist Candidate - Macron is the candidate she fears ....

True enough.

The goings-on in France are certainly reminiscent of aspects of both the UK referendum and the US general election. We can see clear signs of polling being used, as in the US and UK, to create a fake electoral reality. How well that will work we can't know until the elections take place but, as far as I know, this is a new trick to the Francophone world and thus might work as intended.

Secondly we have the manufactured case against Fillon. Manufactured in so far as, while it is possible that the accusations have merit, the story was only promoted by mass media and those behind the media very recently, yet this was an infraction that happened years ago and would have been known about years ago. For this reason we can be sure that it was a tool kept in a box awaiting use, much as happened with Trump in the Land of the Free. That the case is likely a weaponised item of kompromat can be seen from the scale of the infraction, a tiny €800,000 over a decade or so. This begs comparison to the much more serious case of the fraudulent sale of Alstom to GE which generated a cost to the French taxpayer of billions of Euros and was under the helm of the man, Marcon, now slated as Fillon's replacement.

The French do have a history of this type of figurative beheading as many will recall from the case of Dominique Strauss-Kahn who was accused of sexual assault and other invented 'offences' which turned out to be fake and/or exaggerations. The effect of these attacks was to rule the man out from election to the French presidency.

Can Le Pen win? My guess is not, in part due to the multi round system of elections in France. She may get enough votes to get to the second round but will not get enough votes to overcome the support for Fillon/Marcon. I think that as with the 2002 election the margin between Le Pen and the winner (at that time Chirac) will be too great.
...everything ends always well; if it’s still bad, then it’s not the end!

She might get to the next round. But she shares many of the personality disorders of Hilary and that is some thing the French dislike even more than acetic wine.

As they have virtually nothing in common, politically...I don't see the relevance..

Interesting! Pervy kanal was still predicting a Le Pen win in the first round when the British and French Tv / press were claiming Macron would win .. S.C heard it - as I told her that Macron would win ;))

Actually, as of about 30 minutes ago, Le Pen was second and the gap between she and Macron was growing. However, she WILL be in the second round of voting.

It'll take something very unusual to see her take the presidency from here. She is not a second Trump, there's no misreading of polls to be seen here. The polls were, within the margin of error, on the mark.

Macron will take it on the basis of his position being closest to centre and thus a better, easier, second choice for more French voters than Le Pen with her more extreme stance. Le Pen saw most of what she can achieve in the first round. The run off, for her, is already lost.

I see the same reality. Perhaps something will tip the balance back to her, but it would be something extreme.

She is not a likable woman in my estimation (and it is a sense I get from my French friends). Her message though resonates with a large portion of the general French public.

The great pity is The European "Union' yet again will not do a connect of the dots and see how far removed from the present reality they are.

She is not a second Trump,

Let's hope not, or she would be bombing several countries she has never heard of and trying to start a war within 100 days.  (:)

Perhaps something will tip the balance back to her, but it would be something extreme.

Weekly Muslim bombings in Paris for example?

She is not a likable woman in my estimation (and it is a sense I get from my French friends). Her message though resonates with a large portion of the general French public.

She is the only chance France has. Without her, France will be lost to the Muslims as Sweden is.

On my return from Kiev, I spent some time in Paris. Lunch with a friend who has lived there his entire adult life, though he is American and his wife is Scottish. We spoke of the distaste that the general public has for M. le Pen and the legacy of her father.

To me though the +/- 18% that J. L. Mélenchon received is amazing. One thing is fairly certain very few Mélenchon voters will go for Le Pen.

For what it is worth Macron is solidly pro-European Union.
