Beijing to Paris (& no not by airplane)
« on: July 31, 2016, 04:48:57 PM »
Long ago when there was a Czar in Russia, and Lenin was in London (I think) in 1907. There was a car rally from Paris to what we know now as Beijing to Paris. For a long time the rally/race was on ice but with the dissolution of the Soviet Union various versions have been held. In the for what it is worth department a car built by Sypker on Holland was second overall in the very first race.

There was a new version going through large parts of Russia this year, June to July.

The amazing thing a car that I can consider fragile won it this time, a Datsun 240Z. A little research can divert and amuse us from the dog days.

Back in the year 1907, it would be the last Czar of Russia (Nicholas II) and in Beijing, it would be Guangxu emperor (although the Empress Dowager really was in charge).  A Datsun?  Haven't heard that name in a long time.  :)
