Interesting article, and I understand little of this. If you wanted to create a new Rembrandt, I would make a comment or two.

But until the 1980's artificial diamonds were considered a fantasy. Than about 20 years ago they indeed became a reality. I should note that some of this technology came from the Soviet Union. There was the problem though, the cost to mine was far less than the cost to produce. What drove this technology was not women's desire for glitter, but an entirely different area*. Until today this is unrealized.

* Carbon is far better in theory than silicon.
