Manchester VAC
« on: July 15, 2016, 11:43:38 AM »
Decided to go to Manchester - rather than London- last week - wanted to check out the Manchester VAC while in the area.

Walked into Peter House - near the library - having parked nearby in the Oxford Street car park and found the office on the ground floor to the left - after reception.

No queue. No ticket queuing system, no security guard - just two friendly agents.

I was waved to sit down with an agent, immediately and I explained I had not yet cut out my photo for the application form - Alexei offered to do it for me.

I had written a covering letter and Alexei suggested I write more info - something to do with possible 'confusion' as to my activities in Russia I listed what I'd done - would be doing with details of companies and contacts...

Mum was with me and pronounced that the lady was very professional in dealing with an elderly lady  who couldn't decide how to get her visa- as she was leaving  from London in a week.

I was in an out within 10 mins - with a friendly wave from the agents and the lady - who had finished with the elderly lady - wanted to 'process' Mum - who I've been trying to get to Piter  :chuckle:

Ma decided that Russians might indeed be friendly - she thought they were too reluctant to smile..

From my perspective, I'd go there, again ..... VERY good face of Russia and who knows  - I might get my Ma to the Hermitage, yet..  :chuckle:

They do not offer a collection service at Manchester - that has to be from London - the std return method is via courier....I applied on a Thursday got the visa back on the following Friday ..

They returned my endorsed bank statements- highlighting in green - the qualifying presence of ample funds with the new Visa...

Thoroughly recommend Manchester VAC.

RU Visa renewal time ... decided I'd use Manchester, again

Walked in with my docs and no-one else waiting ... was in and out in 10 mins.. Very friendly.

Last time there were two ppl working - this time only one ...

I hope this lack of activity will not mean it's staying open will be in doubt ... Manchester and Edinburgh are 'cosy' - In Russia the UK VACs are simply not in the same league as the Ru one's..

With the 'strength' of the GBP I reckon there'll be more RU tourists coming to the UK, this year ..

WHY .. considering the Yanks get 3 year Visas don't the Russia allow 'us' to be able to get longer visas .... ? I'm on my umpteenth Ru visa ... Even the UK allow regular visitors - incl. Russians -  to apply for longer visas - after a few  :coffeeread:

Assuming they can get visas. Our government have been denying and/or delaying many visas for Russians; this even included staff at the embassy in London.

Seems to me the ruble would need to strengthen for this to happen, not the GBP.

Russian domestic tourism has skyrocketed and foreign tourism has decreased because of the devaluation of the ruble to other currencies.

Have you applied for a longer visa?

Also, the reason Yanks have a 3-year option is because the Yanks offer it to Russians. Does England do the same? IOW, it's typically recriprocal.

Are these three year visas or three years VALIDITY visas? Like the UK 2, 5 and 10 year ones? If so the UK does offer 2, 5 and 10 year visit visas to everyone, even Russians. Whether they're granted or not is another matter. Usually you need a proven record of abiding by the rules on a few normal 6 months visas. Even with the longer term visit visas they only allow 6 months in every 12, and even that's considered too much now going off what we're seeing on the immigration boards I frequent, they mantra being where is the line between visiting and residing for half a year.

Hi Danchik

There is  no option for UK citizens to get longer..even though I know Russians can get..as Ste suggests.. longer ones for the UK...so no  issue re reciprocation. Hence my querying...

As for the GBP. ..It has fallen from 121 to 74 v the Rouble..  over 10 months..  Thank you Brexit voters

Enquiries re learning English are back...because the Rouble goes further in the UK

My flight to Russia. .from Turkey was full.

Manny,  I have had friends over from Sochi...one who was once refused  a UK visa.

I do not know anyone who has been refused a visa for tourism or education, this year.

In 2014 ..for sure... the UK refused many biz visas...notable being Farnborough air show

Concerning my Visa..I needed a 1 year multi entry Biz visa and one no longer needs the original sent from Russia via courier..It arrives in an e-format in approx 12 working days.....The whole thing cost c.300GBP, saving 60 GBP and no waiting for a courier.  The visa within my passport  was back on the 6th working day.

Wasn't your innamorata [ she's long passed girlfriend status ]  refused one do I recall?

Yes, but THAT was because the translations of supporting documents were not enclosed in the application ... even though I'd paid for the premium checking service..all sorted out - after BS excuses from the crap company the UK uses, now.

That was Nov '15 ... As I said, I had not heard of any acquaintances being refused Tourist visas - incl visits for educational purposes, this year - incl. previous refusal applicants. More than one being successful in 2016.

I know a slew of diplomatic ones had issues.

That is more to do with political games - rather than refusing tourists...

Anyway, I much prefer VFS to the UK 'partner' ...

Fuzzy math.

The rouble is still $1/60 ru (1eu/64ru), with more than 50% of the increase in value coming in the last 2 weeks after OPEC signed an agreement to lower oil production. Airlines have long made the adjustment in prices as well heading west.

The rouble still has a ways to go to get back to where it was before Russians start travelling more outside the country other than Egypt, Greece and Turkey. The U.K. is no exception. And Russians look at money exchanges in Euros/dollars. Seems you forgot to factor in that Russian wages have also dropped 15% since 2015 pretty much negating any benefit from Brexit.

Russians do not think in terms of, "hey, the British pound has suffered in relation to the rouble because of Brexit, salary be damned let's go to London" (:). Sorry, but international travel for Russians is still way down compared to 2014.

My flight to Russia. .from Turkey was full.
Makes sense, doesn't it? Does to me since they were/are literally giving away travel packages to any Russian willing to go to Turkey, especially with the Turkish government subsidizing its tourist industry. Now let's talk about Europe/U.K./America.

My roundtrip flight from Moscow to France was half empty; both ways. Spain, about 2/3 capacity. Spain is by far a more popular destination with Russians than the U.K..

Delta has cancelled flights from Moscow to New York and vice versa where previous flights back to Moscow were full (2015 and earlier). The only reason my flight from LA to Moscow was full with Aeroflot (May 2016), was because of all the people transferring (non-Russians) to other places through Moscow with Aeroflot partnership connections, i.e. of the 300 or so travellers, only about 100 went with me to exit into the city.

Maybe an enquiry into real life and the Russian mentality is needed. :)

OK.. I'm pretty sure you 'follow' the GBP v RUR rates every day ... so you'd 'know'...

No Maths necessary ...

I know 36 Russian students hoping to go to the UK in May 17 who's parent know different ...

Actually, after two and half years of austerity, that's exactly what some Ma's and Pa's are thinking - when the weakness of the GBP is pointed out ..

My flight to Russia. .from Turkey was full.

The guy sat next to me was coming home from 2 months in the USA - he works in transport logistics - the lass in the aisle seat lives in Dubai and was going to visit her parents for new year...  Turkey isn't exactly 'warm' at this time of year .... I'm guessing most used it as a hub... the people in front were from Odessa - using IST to fly to Moscow

My roundtrip flight from Moscow to France was half empty; both ways. Spain, about 2/3 capacity. Spain is by far a more popular destination with Russians than the U.K..

Most of what you posted is certainly factual - many routes from the UK to Russia were cancelled - I am speaking of the here and now and future. The UK is not a package holiday / beach destination ...  Russians like(d) to go there to improve their English and see some history and Shakespeare ..

An unexpected 'benefit' of Brexit and the much weakened UK currency is the resurgence of Russian visitors and the enquires for private school education are WAY up, too

While 100% unrelated to the topic of this thread. I have flown between Amsterdam/Paris and once Frankfurt to Kiev more than 20 times this year. I have yet to see an empty seat on these flights. It seems the majority of passengers are from Ukraine and bring 2.8 bags each on board. When way back when Wizz was serving Kiev (IEV) the fights were also full.

Kiev (KBP & IEV) it should be noted is not much of transit airports.

I don't know how many flights I've been on, must be about about 500 mostly in EU, and all where either totally full or almost totally full.

Love hearing tales of folks on 747's with about 15 on board!
