EURO 2016
« on: June 08, 2016, 08:37:00 PM »
Are you a footy fan??

If so, where will you be watching the first England match against Russia??

I'm at the wedding of one of my interpreters on Saturday, from 14.00 and the game will be shown late in the night, towards what should be the end of the drunken festivities.. :drunk:

Can you imagine the scene??

Many drunken Russians, one lone Englishman, England score,  the Englishman jumps up shouting "Gerinthere", oopppsssss.. :hidechair:

Better quickly brush up on my unarmed combat/fisticuffs.............

As an Ulsterman, this 'Russo-phobe'  :chuckle: will be wearing his Russia national team cap with lots of Englishmen shouting for Russia on a video link back to Sochi...

Northern Ireland will be playing in the same group as Germany, Poland and...Ukraine...

Naturally, 'when' NI play Russia - I will shout for NI..... [ assumes they will both qualify for the next round ]

Northern Ireland go into the competition having topped their qualifying group and on the back of the longest unbeaten run of any of the 24 teams ...

I have never claimed to be a Blue Beret

Very much a split house here - Tanya will have the RU flag out for 2 hours - when they lose it will get stamped on then folded up for another 2 years ;D

Of course there's always that lingering doubt that we will suck at a major tournament again :(

She normally does Skype chat with her dad at 10.00 on a Saturday night- so I dare say the game will come up in conversation!
If you get a minute check out Bruce's TR - Its not quite finished, however its still a pretty good read IMHO.

If I win the lottery I'll finish it this week if not I'll probably complete it when I retire!!! Until then I hope you enjoy the story so far!

My son is a footy fanatic, and my wife only shows an interest when Russia are playing. So there is now ribbing and rivalry going on between them. She tells him about Russia's great sportsmen, he kind of sighs and says "Yes, that's all very well when they are playing Somewherevakia, but this is the England team". And on it goes........

The first winners of this tournament was the Soviet Union, btw [ 1960]

In '92 and 2004 Denmark and Greece shocked fans and bookies by winning it, when they were rank outsiders .. Denmark only having had a weeks warning of playing - after Yugoslavia were disqualified - due to civil war and non existence...

France normally do well when hosting and Belgium has some great players ..

If Northern Ireland won, it would be bigger than Leicester winning the Premiership - but I'm daring to dream ...

Poland, Germany, Ukraine .... 'no problem' - N.I are a team of Sunday School choir boys in comparison..

I see the minority of English 'fans' are indulging in their favourite past time of not being able to handle their drink.  They'll get a rude awakening if they try that with the Russian fans.  Я буду болеть за россию завтра!   :RUS:

I am not sure this is a trait to be proud of but I agree - trying to drink a Russian under the table is - in my case - a waste of time.

I hope the game is entertaining

I think you misunderstood me - I don't believe Russians have superior drinking stamina, but they do generally always eat while they're drinking which is far more sensible thing to do if you're going on a session.

However, I was referring to the hooligan element: it's one thing to get drunk and throw a few bottles at the police; but they would be making a big mistake if they try anything on with Russian hooligans; many of whom don't drink and train MMA and Muay Thai.  I see one English hooligan got a bit too 'brave' yesterday and was  beaten and dumped into the harbour  by Russians; nothing to be proud of, just plain truth!

As for the game, England have got a very good chance of winning that.

As was predicted, the English hooligans are really just a bunch of pot-bellied beer swilling amateurs in comparison to the trained aggression of the Russians.  Hooliganism: I really can't understand the primitiveness of it but hey, after so many years, theEnglish hooligans who have bullied and intimidated have met up with a group more brutal, organised and violent than they can handle and they don't like it, so obviously, they must be: "animals, barbaric" and worse still, "holders of World Cup 2018". Maybe it's a time for reflection? ................ nah, thought not!

What about all that violence after the Aussie-English rugby game last night, which was won by the English in Brisbane? Yep, there was none. Fans need to get a grip and watch the sport they enjoy in peace.

I can't wait until the British football apes try to pull this shit in Russia in a couple of years and come up against a REAL police force, one unencumbered by western PC liberal values and full of Moby's cross dressing friends. I'll be cheering on the Russian fuzzski with every British monkey football-fan skull they crack open.

...come up against a REAL police force....

Did you mean Russian police?? What are you talking about??
Do you really live in Russia??
Russian police is very weak: understaffed, low salary, poor equipment and no proper training.
All they know is how to take bribes.
In critical situation there was always army and special forces. NEVER police!!!

I'll be cheering on the Russian fuzzski with every British monkey football-fan skull they crack open.

Sometimes I ask myself if you really understand what you write here.

By the way, Russians can beat you badly, but they will never crack skulls open for fun.
It is not a Russian nature.
Just let you know, if you've  missed this part....

That was one of the most enjoyable games I have ever watched, and I hate watching football especially on tv. Don't follow the game at all. There was a couple of the Moscow teams players which was pointed out to me endlessly during the match. Score really could have been anything with both sides having 4-5 opportunities they didn't convert to goals. When the goalie was out of the box at the end and Russia almost scored again, was nail biting stuff.

I have to say, several English players stood out but no Russian player did( except maybe their goalie's efforts). Alli was by far the most influential player IMHO, and had awesome footwork.

All in all, a fair result..

The spoiler as usual was as others have already pointed out, the "So called" fans/supporters.. Disgusting and shameful to the whole tournament.

Btw, had a lovely day at the wedding, typical Russian hospitality, super.
