It's that time of year- Eurovision
« on: May 13, 2016, 01:30:46 AM »
Russia look hot favourites with a song co-written by their ex-Boy George clone - Philipp Kirkorov -the video is good, too

Ukraine

Well their song is by a Tatar and is sailing close to the wind - re Eurovision rules and politics - drawing attention to the plight and oppression of Crimean Tatars in Soviet times.

Rossiya - did not mention the origin of the lass or the meaning of the song [1944] - which was telling - as they covered other meanings

The song doesn't impress and may not make the final

I still miss Terry Wogan's predicting the votes and it will be interesting to see how many votes Ukraine give Russia
I have never claimed to be a Blue Beret

Spurious claims about 'seeing action' with the Blue Berets are debunked >here<

It was in English and Tartarian. What's that got do with her winning anyway? She won fair and square. Deal with it.

They just played the sympathy vote!! Next time the UK should have Shaker Aame representing them. Maybe he should wear some bright orange funky suit and have tears in his eyes whilst singing about life in Guatemala Bay..

Im sure he would win. But I don't think they would stoop so low as the?

I bet there are some people in the Ukrainian government having a few laughs today  Lets see if the International monetary fund threw them a few billion :money: to help stage the next show..

Vietnam have been invited to sing in next years Eurovision. I hear they have a singer that suffered burns from Napalm dropped by the the USA. She will also be singing about some peace and freedom bollocks.

Lets see if she wins

Well, well,

'the song that didn't impress' ..... won

Russia came from 5th to 3rd - when the public phone in vote came through

Poland went from last to 5th - UK diaspora ?

Australia's song was the best - came second

SC is not usually moved to outbursts, but was miffed that Russia's song was so low in the judge's ranking...''they don't like us - why should we try, next year'' ?

I pointed out that the UK got the second lowest tele poll vote  and 'we' still try :chuckle:

My friend said to-day about Eurovision result: " Is this Political Song Contest"?  :chuckle:
As for musical preferences and tastes I don't like Jamala. She has a good voice but she is politicized.
She was  interviewed thousands times during last two years, saying always the same things.

She was chosen for Eurovision especially with a clear aim.

Isn't it better to sing about poverty of the majority of ukrainian people that suffer to-day to show what exactly is happening. 50 banks were closed, payments increased three times, people lose their business, cold in winter in appartments(no gas) and so on!!!

The whole thing was a cheat as usual on behalf of Ukraine! Nothing changes there..

Just watch out in the news the government coming cap in hand to the EU now for cash to fund the next Eurovision.. As usual more chance to cream money from the EU.

The public voted for it? Ye right!! The public also voted for Tony Blair to go to war in Afghanistan  :'(
Remember Adolf hitler once said "The public don't think"

I started a thread a day or two before Steve - It might be nice if it was merged...I reckoned Ukraine's song wasn't THAT great and that Russia's song would win - so did the bookies

SC was roused to proclaim 'they hate Russia' as the judges votes seemed  to be political - Greece giving Russia max votes - 'coz it was co-written by a Greek and many EU nations and of course Georgia ignoring Russia and the giving Ukraine max points

The UA song was about the Soviets mass expelling of Crimeans - for the -incorrect - largely - perception of being Nazi collaborators - many died in the large marches east. It was NOT about the current situation.

What was telling was how the public vote allowed Poland to come from last to 5th - probably due to Poles in UK  - one can't vote for one's own nation from within that nation.

Russia went from 5th to 3rd - prob due to eth Russians in the Baltic states and the fact the song was good

Australia?  I now think their effort was even better - she sure blew me away with her performance....and they were winning by a country mile - before the televotes

Steveboy... the UK came second last in the televote...  :chuckle:

So I watched the 'favorites' , my vote would be something like this:

1) Australia
2) Netherlands
3) ...

10. ....

20 ukraine.

Based purely on the merits of the singers , how easy it is to understand the song and actually keeping to the music without false notes and rythm.

I have to agree with steve, this win was political and had nothing to do with music

Did you listen to the top-5 ? Do you think Ukraine deserves to win this musical contest?

If you think that this years message was: Healing and bringing peace and brothership, do you think Ukraine's song describes this process well?

Its typical Ukrainian style! The government want to win some sympathy which =  :money:

Its just like the Visa free bollocks! There you have the Ukrainian government telling the people "We will bring you visa free travel" making such a big show about the subject!

Why?

Because Adolf Hitler once said "Its lucky for governments the people do not think" So there you have the people of Ukraine thinking their NEW government is doing something for them they have only ever dreamed of. Visa free travel ?? I thought food and an uncorrupt government were more important.. Obviously not.

Whilst as usual the Government are there are laughing their socks off at the people, they are happy. Still lots of money to cream off the EU. And the people "Who don't think" are happy for a few more years..

Its a joke..

To all those saying this was a political win.
Perhaps you can explain how a win decided by a public vote was political seeing that Russia was also a beneficiary if the same public vote.
You may not like the winning song but quite clearly a lot of people did and voted for it.
If it had been any other country winning there wouldnt be this reaction. If anything, its you who are politicising this.
Like I said. Ukraine won.
Tough on the losers, especially Australia.
Deal with it, amigos.

Its just a song competition.
