USA sends 12 F-15's to Iceland
« on: April 02, 2016, 11:20:27 PM »
The USA has sent 12 F15 Eagles to Iceland along with 350 support troops.  The USA had a base on Iceland during the cold war but closed it in 2006.  Since it looks like we have a new cold war brewing the USA has decided to support Iceland who does not have a military.

Only an American would think that Iceland needs/wants defending. Ant, if you knew anything about the culture & political opinion in Iceland, you'd be embarrassed by your post. This is for the US and nobody else.

Didn't Russia bail out Iceland a few years ago?
If so it's a hell of a way to show gratitude.

USA has to find some place to store these decrepit 1970's designed warplanes.  Iceland or the Nevada desert?

Besides they have an operational range of <2000 KM  No threat whatsoever to Russia...

They are not there to threaten Russia.  They are there to prevent Russia from threatening Iceland since Russia has been making unlawful over flights.  They're also being used for training missions in the Netherlands.

Ah, thanks for that, I was going to look see if the Icelanders had invited this 'protection'. So, now we know. The US presence is unwanted.

Iceland and the USA have a long friendship and mutual respect.  After all, the United States was the first country to recognize Iceland's independence in 1944 following Danish rule.

(so much for the anti-USA propaganda from the usual suspects)

1, The yanks kept it quiet from the Icelandic populace.
2, They stated that they were only going to up-rate 1 hanger for a P8.
3, They have again imposed themselves onto another country contrary to the populations wishes.

Yea that's right. The US & Iceland are big buddies and politically aligned. Iceland will be delighted that you lot have muscled in on another territory around the globe.

If the Russians had done it, the Whitehouse would be rinsing their knickers.

Pity they don't similarly recognise Crimea.

Actually, scrub that, it doesn't really matter who/what they recognise.

The US does have a history of putting its stuff in places where there is zero threat, and then trumpeting it as a method of deterring "Russian aggression" (that doesn't exist). As we see in the Baltics and eastern Europe.

Its a simple PR stunt to keep the anti-Russian propaganda machine rumbling. McCain will be there next babbling his crap.

If you bothered to read the original agreement going back to 1951 you would know that we have a right to be there, no muscling needed.  In fact far more of a right than Russia had in Crimea where they had to send in highly armed masked men to steal territory from Ukraine.  That caused a lot of "delight".

However keep repeating your mantra "USA bad".  Too bad we won't cut you blokes in the UK off from our protection like we should.  Brainwashed indeed.  :fighting0025:

If Russian aggression did not exist there never would have been an Iron Curtain.  There would not be hundreds of thousands of dead Chechens from the Russian carpet bombing -- an International War Crime.  There would not be nearly 300K now dead Syrians -- killed by Russian helicopter gunships and other Russian munitions.  Europe would not now be flooded with over a million Muslim refugee's, mostly from Syria.

However Putin's plan to threaten European stability and his hopes to dissolve NATO are going well -- due to the instability Russia created in Syria, and the radical Islamic terrorists they created from the Chechen war.  Bravo!

Netherlands doesn't have training missions on its own soil involving aircraft.
The common people would complain far too much about the noise.

Wish we did though.

You know full well that Russia hasn't been flying over Iceland or into their airspace.

The flights might be almost nonexistent, but it did happen.

Also again in 1999  and back in the 70s  :chuckle:

It's worse than lying. He genuinely believes that US foreign policy is done in the name of democracy, freedom and the greater good. Folks like Ant have been indoctrinated to believe that the world needs the US to survive and without them, we'd all curl up and die.

Historically the US have been good allies and generally speaking, good friends too. Today however, they cause more problems than they solve and it's a liability to be associated with them. A real shame because there's many a good person from the states.

Ant, do you really believe the UK's going to crumble to a Muslim wave of invaders and we'll be abiding by Sharia law without the US? I don't deny that there's many problems for humanity to deal with globally, but you appear to be living in some kind of weird fantasy filled with guns, power, religion and world domination. A worrying concept considering there's a few more like you running for president.

If it were me, I'd happily cut the apron strings with the US. Keep things civil, trade where we can and not be emotionally blackmailed into following you guys into wars we shouldn't start. The US would soon find itself isolated from the world community and instead of bombing you into thinking differently, maybe you can learn diplomatically.

Russia ain't no sweety pie either but I can relate much better with their foreign policy than that of the US. Nothing personal Ant....just the way it is.

The US is NOT interested in what the people say, and are doing exactly as they have always done, imposing their will..

Typical of Europeans; they don't want a US military presence, but they'll gladly accept the resulting US dollars into their economy.
