Cancer
« on: February 15, 2016, 01:49:21 AM »
Had a few op's in last few years, went to surgeon for check-up today, told him about sore knee after doing 5km walks daily. Told me get x-ray and MRI. Looks like cancer starting in my leg. Shattered.

Chin up.

Wait until you have got the results of the x-ray and the MRI.

When will they be?

Lets hope for the best.

Good luck

Better starting and found early than well established in an inaccessible place.

Best of luck for effective treatment and a speedy recovery mate.

Well, that's a bad way to start the day for sure.

These days though cancer is not the killer it used to be, particularly of found at an early stage.

If you are anything like me you will get off and do some research and that research will reassure you because lack of knowledge is the scary thing. Know your enemy and know him well.
...everything ends always well; if it’s still bad, then it’s not the end!

Bad news indeed.

Early detection seems to be the key to any cancer and let's hope and pray for the best possible outcome.

I'm positive, and will do tests as required. Most upset are my 18 and 20yo daughters. Wife is making sure I get to do tests.

Pain is the most frequent symptom of bone cancer. There is no way you would be able to walk 5km daily.
You would have other symptoms like swelling in the knee, fractures, decreased mobility, unintended weight loss and fatigue
Many bone cancer symptoms are very similar to conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis or injury.
Any cancer is so serious diagnosis. It usually takes two or three doctors to agree. You do not have even one for now.
Don’t jump into conclusion.

No conclususion yet Orchid, only what I have been told by likely most respected Orthopedic surgeon in Melboure. Pain-yes, swelling-yes. I walk so much to build strength after 3 hip surgeries--no point sitting around. I'm only 45

Information about three hip surgeries tells me that there is high probability that you will have the knee surgery soon.
Total knee replacement starts in the morning, and in the afternoon patients are walking.
Again, with bone cancer you would be in unbearable pain.
I encourage you to take all prescribed tests and consult several independent doctors.
Start your own on-line research, mostly with government and cancer society websites.
It will help you to understand the problem.

Had both knee arthroscopes done as well.

Arthroscopy is a diagnostic procedure. It is not a surgery.
Looks like you have long standing issue with your joints.
Your clinical picture is closer to autoimmune disorder when white blood cells recognize joints as foreign bodies, attack and destroy them.
Still, it is important to do all tests to rule out cancer.
Sorry for being blunt. My hubby hates me for that.

You are right, joints have been battered during my rugby playing years. Hard to recover after being smashed by 100kg+ guys with no padding!
