Crimea - time to recognise it is part of RF ?
« on: December 29, 2015, 01:30:51 PM »
Was handed out a newspaper whilst 'couch surfing' my way by to Sochi on the flight from London to Istanbul.. :coffeeread:

Found it quite thought provoking

Something in there that will annoy all viewpoints - but worth a read.

Bear in mind the article from the grey lady is over three years old.

Interesting to see in the article of DC guy from the Independent how out of sync Trump is with his own advisers and military.
BTW I’m looking forward to the next Civil War in the USA

Now that years have passed since this article was written , all signs are green for crimea. This year will be record breaking since 2014 in number of tourists. Perhaps even since it started in 1990

Do tell,

1/ WHY are flights to Crimea subsidised ?

2/ WHERE can RU civil servants who had had their right to leave CIS nation taken away - for 'security reasons ' - other than Sochi .. ?

Moby, do you ever stop being negative? If the situation was reversed the West would also do their best to make the most of the situation.

Moby, I see you like minutia ~ perhaps it is a reflection of one of your organs.

Sometimes you have a valid question or raise an interesting point. Though when I asked about the goals of the IRA you did not bother to even reply, shows your mentality.

Mostly thought you like to prove with your posts what an ass you are.

Actually "Old chap", a quick search with Aeroflot shows flights to Sochi at about 4,000r one way, and 4,600r to Crimea one way, so where is the subsidy...

Yes, a few years ago, and only for the one season, flights to Crimea were subsidized, but there again, flights to Sochi have also been heavily subsidized in order to get the consumer to visit and be fleeced...

Many RU civil servants can take holidays abroad depending upon their position/security risk..

This does not only happen in Russia, many countries "Control" where their Civil servants can holiday which you will of course well know...

The bridge is excellent having crossed it several times, the problems at this time are the feeder roads which are still under construction, and can give the traveler a couple of hours traffic jams to get to the crossing..

Several/many trucks park up around Anapa and Gazelle's ferry goods back and forth, its like one big distribution center...

Prices are about 10% higher for imported goods, but about 15% lower for local produce..

Hotels are about fully booked out..

In the queues waithing to transit the bridge in both directions, approx. 1 in every 5/6 cars was Ukrainian registered..

There is a BIG differenc in the place to what it was 7 years ago, much building work going on, many available jobs, in fact, they (the Crimean authorities) are advertising for workers/specialists/technicians etc on the mainland..

Interesting posts Gypsy. Thank you.

A somewhat odd question, if you go to one of the harbours what flag(s) do you see on the transoms (sterns) of the vessels?

Why do you state false and misleading statements as facts. I will not and cannot answer questions there.

As to your question why people choose crimea over sochi. My days on the sandy beaches here do not know why.  I have never been to sochi. I can only comment on the miles and miles of beaches filled with people whom chose evpatoria as their destination. The daily traffic jam to get there is becoming tiresome

Actually "Old chap", a quick search with Aeroflot shows flights to Sochi at about 4,000r one way, and 4,600r to Crimea one way, so where is the subsidy...?

I use skyscanner and invite the dear reader to check SIM-Mos and AER-Mos ...  'Funny how Crimea flights are cheaper...

Yes, a few years ago, and only for the one season, flights to Crimea were subsidized, but there again, flights to Sochi have also been heavily subsidized in order to get the consumer to visit and be fleeced...

Please find us when Sochi flights have been subsidised since Crimea was annexed ?

Many RU civil servants can take holidays abroad depending upon their position/security risk..

'Really' ? From Fire-men to Police-men - they cannot ...  V's sister's husband is a fireman and they cannot go to their beloved Thailand and a member of this very board has dated a Police officer who was none too pleased to have her right to travel out side former CIS nations rescinded - for security reasons ...   Then there's Customs Officials ....

This does not only happen in Russia, many countries "Control" where their Civil servants can holiday which you will of course well know...

The guy who oversaw the Tomahawk missiles being installed in UK Nuke subs was allowed to take a cruise down the Volgo river ....  so yes - I DO know ....

Why are you in denial about stuff you really should know about ?

Why do you state false and misleading statements as facts. I will not and cannot answer questions there.

They are valid questions and not misleading - despite what Gypo suggested - we both know why you don't want to answer ... :chuckle:

As to your question why people choose crimea over sochi. My days on the sandy beaches here do not know why.  I have never been to sochi. I can only comment on the miles and miles of beaches filled with people whom chose evpatoria as their destination. The daily traffic jam to get there is becoming tiresome

'Indeed' we've already seen how empty your Crimean beaches where compared to Sochi ones  - you tried to suggest I'd posted from a busier time - rather than admit you were busted and accept my - truthful - pointing out my PC showed UK - not Russian time ....  a kind mod needed to protect you ...

Crimea's got FAR nicer sandy beaches - but Sochi's infrastructure and post beach entertainment facilities are much greater

A friend took five hours to go 100km, on Tuesday - to go and collect his international passport - which took over six weeks - should take 30 days ... so 'Thanks' Sochi knows all about traffic in the Summer peak - with it's 'serpentine' one and only route along the coast ...
