Looks like a Russian airliner carrying over 200 passengers has crashed in Egypt.

https://www.rt.com/news/320217-russian-plane-off-radars/

Personally the only Russian airline I would fly with is Aeroflot I would never feel safe on any other :(

So, it appears to be an 18 year old Airbus and the pilot may have radioed about having an engine problem..

As it was reported to be at 9500m - you'd think he'd be ableto land somewhere....

Some reports voices could be heard - intimating survivors  :o

I have flown S7 also and they are pretty good all new planes.

There have been some stupid comments in the media like "What comes round goes round"

Incredibly sad. Ugh, it just punches me in the gut to hear about stuff like this. This was a very modern and newer aircraft, too.

Those are stupid comments indeed, but my personal assessment is that pilot's mentalities in the FSU are definitely more prone to being a little "cowboy" and cavalier than in the West. That's not speculating on this tragedy specifically.

The pilot requested permission to land at Cairo right after take off because of a technical fault, so it appears at the moment that pilot error was not a factor.
I apologise.
And so he should.........

Obviously a technical issue was involved in the crashed. It is WAY too early to tell whether there was any pilot error involved as well.

For pilots, events like this just hit us in the gut, and nothing pisses us off more than moronic, premature media speculation.

I suppose it's possible that ISIS smuggled some sort of bomb onto the plane or even that they had a tech working for them who deliberately sabotaged the plane.  If that is proven to be true it will be a quicker death for ISIS than what is already in the works.

Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

This might be just media speculation -

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/russia/11967725/Russian-plane-crash-Isil-claims-it-brought-down-airliner-that-crashed-in-Sinai-with-224-people-on-board-latest-news.html

If it is true then thermobaric carpet bombing of Ar Raqqah is in order.

So, based on your train of thought Ukraine could have 'legitimately' carpet bombed SE Ukraine - following 'Girkin's' hastily deleted boast ....

I find t strange that it is reported that the pilot raidoedin a technical diffucultly  - engine  ? - Yet climed to 9500m..... if seeking to land in a hurry

Dutch news today does report that a Terrorist attack is the most likely scenario as technical problems with the airplane have been ruled out mostly.

Only the "tailgate airscrape during takeoff/landing & faulty repaired" is the only viable option now for technical difficulties causing this crash.

See china airlines for similar accident.

The final investigation report found that the accident was the result of metal fatigue caused by inadequate maintenance after an earlier tailstrike incident.

This is the BIGGEST news in Russia and yesterday was declared a 'day of mourning'

1/ The co-pilot's wife went on NTV -Gazprom's tv station - to say that her husband had said the plane was in a disgraceful maintenance state

2/ It seems it broke up in mid air - so something catastrophic has happened.

The plane fell from 9500m and forward motion was lost.

''The Russian passenger jet that crashed in Sinai, Egypt, must have been damaged by a force in flight and couldn’t have just broken apart, the airline of the ill-fated Airbus A321 said. '' Source Russia Today https://www.rt.com/news/320469-sinai-plane-owner-statement/

I don't think the Russian's or Egyptians want this to be a terrorist attack - the former for the link to Syria and the latter as they are desparate for Russian Tourists.

All flights are avoiding overflying the Sinai
