Is a Russian private Visa hard to get?
« on: September 24, 2015, 03:45:02 PM »

Is a russia private visa hard to get approved? Yes I will have an invitation, just wondering if they are as difficult to get approved as a canadian or US tourist Visa?
Thank You

A private invitation from a Russian citizen is a very simple procedure. Your lady will just need a scan of your passport and pop down her local immigration office to complete the form.

She will also need to take with her a print out from her bank showing she has about 30,000 roubles in credit , enough to feed you whilst your there.  :)

If she has no money you can lend her the money to put in her account, they only need see proof of money in the bank on that day, so just a print out from a cash machine is fine.

It takes 30 days for a private invite to be ready for her to collect. The actual process only takes 2/3 days but its Russia:) Of course if you do this several times and get to know the immigration officer you may be able to take him a bottle of drink and chocolates for his mother , it can help speed the process up.

A private invitation is valid for 90 days and you can ask for a double entry invite allowing you to visit twice within 3 months, you can also stay the full 90 days if you wish.

Your lady will then need to make you registration when you arrive at the same immigration office, this is free :)

Steveboy, if only it were this simple.

I tried to do this route last summer on vacation , but in the end I still ended up with a tourist visa, because it was too difficult.

Clearly you was doing some thing wrong then!! I have made so many private invites I lost count.

It is a very very simple process ANY Russian citizen can make a private invite , it takes exactly 15 minutes in the immigration office. That is providing you do not have to queue up for an hour. It is important the person makes the invite in their local immigration office and no where else. Other than that its as easy as 1-2-3  :)

Every time I have traveled to Russia I have a private visa.  It was very simple.  It took my wife 30 days to get the visa and then two weeks for me to get the visa from the Russian embassy in New York.  Very simple.
What is worse than not being able to get what you don't even want?

So , I really would like my visa to become more easy to travel around between Russia/Netherlands.

There are basicly 2 options

1) A 1-year multi-entry business visa.
2) A single-entry private visa

Previous used:
Single-entry tourist visa.

I don't get it, how people from the USA can get 3-year multi-entry tourist visa's , but apparently for Netherlands this option dissapears and you can only select a single-entry max-30-days visa.

What if I want to stay 6 weeks with my inlaws.

Usually, the procedure is reciprocal. An American can get a 3-year tourist visa to Russia because a Russian can get a 3-year tourist visa to America.

How long can a Russian stay in the Netherlands on any visa? It's rhetorical as there it's most likely you'll find your answer as to why.

Depends on the reason.

Most common is the Shengen visa, multi-entry 90 days maximum stay per 180 days. Total visa valid for 1 year.

My MIL asked for a single-entry 6-week shengen visa to witness the birth of our son, she was granted the above multi-entry visa.

Then there are long-term shengen visa (5 years) for various reasons, other than some extra documentation to be granted one the rules of entry are unlimited stay within Shengen for the entire duration of the visa.

EDIT: to add: the 5-year visa can also be extended for 5 more years, as long as the reason for getting this visa has not changed.

The problem with a private visa is the time limit and non re-entry ..

Much better for Markje to apply for a one year m/entry business visa , then go for his 2nd - then the option open to Schengen Passport holders - incl NL

Mark,
The US and Russia have a reciprocal agreement on visa's, which is for visa's up to 3 years, Russians visiting the US get the same.
If your wife lives with you in Holland, you can both go to the Russian Consulate where she makes an application for a private visa for you, normally the visa is a 90 day multi entry visa. To my knowledge, no income/savings levels are required for said applications.
As sparky says, he also uses them for his visits.
Good Luck.
