Did we actually establish what was wrong with it?
Read a trip report from North Korea >>here<< - Read a trip report from South Korea, China and Hong Kong >>here<<

Look what the American media makes some people believe:
Putin often threatens to strike US with nuclear weapons.

Just think yourself lucky that your current lady can afford such a car, most people can not.

WHY would you assume she is paying  / can afford to run this car  ?

Andrewfi, raised the point that many cannot afford a Ford Focus

Judging by the number of high end AMG Mercs M series BMWs and Range Rovers  -no Jags - I see in Sochi - I wonder if there aren't a LOT of cars that were bought on credit.

Yeah, bought on blood money...

There's a car sales place in the way into Leeds City Centre, in Armley of all place (shiithole with a prison) and they have a range of high end cars for sale, including a Range Rover, second hand, at £65,995 - foooook me, I do ok money wise but no way could I consider that! It's nearly four times the cost of my first house!

You can't justify credit on that can you, unless it's 0% which they definitely won't have in Russia anyway, would be like 2k a month. Well they are drug dealers cars anyway.....

UPDATE

trying to contact Ford HQ at  Dearborn

The country websites can only help with vehicles bought in that country and no-one can help at Ford USA with an email / fax or tel number for a Ford Exec that MIGHT be able to help us. 'We are not trained for that' .....

I need to come back to the UK and do not want SC having to catch taxis everywhere in 90F - We have our own car and want it back on the road or a courtesy car

Hi Markje...as Ford Russia were swift to point out...responded in 1 minute..' not our legal obligation'))

As there was a history of 'issues' and charging for 'non warranty' labour that was already being disputed and certainly not being responded to, Ford Russia haven't covered themselves in glory..

Their site thanks their clients for putting faith when purchasing their product..

Having been off the road nearly 10 percent of it's life isn't condusive to retaining such 'faith' ..

Ford HQ initially responded by asking us to contact Ford Russia Cust Services.. not reading we had tried and have now got the VIN details of the car and have promised an 'investigation.'

I found a corporate site on FB.. the corp website doesn't offer contact details.

High end cars are very often leased, even when secondhand. The cost, on lease, of a Mercedes is not far off the cost of a more mundane marque because with leasing one is funding the depreciation of the car over a fixed period of time.
Thus a low depreciation motor will cost less than a high depreciation one.

Leasing has tax advantages for businesses in most parts of the world. In Estonia one of the first acts of the newly minted business owner is the leasing of something tasty and reliable. I'd be surprised if metropolitan Russia was different.

In the past though, and perhaps to some degree true today, quite a few high end motors were sourced direct from the streets of Germany. In Moldova the MB dealer in Kishinev sold very few cars but serviced many. At the time of my visit I was offered my choice of car delivered from Germany for about £7k.The Moldova government charged an entry tax for these 'imports'.
...everything ends always well; if it’s still bad, then it’s not the end!

Andrewfi, the car isn't leased and isn't on tick [ credit] so the options you describe were not open to us.

Interesting ..WHITE is big in the UK, too for most ordered colour..

You gotta be the most self centered person I have come across.
If I were referring to your current flatmate's situation I would have made it as clear as I have just made it that I was not.

From my experience, and that dates back, when we had a case of slipping belt, it always slipped more, when you had the steering wheel against a stop, because the steering pump was using more power, making the belt easy to slip. :coffeeread:

SC called the dealer and was told the parts would not be available until Tuesday of next week and the fault was very serious and perhaps we had driven the car for 'some time' before - finally - bring it in  ...?

I have a bad feeling they may be going to try to say we are some way liable..Thank goodness I raised it on here and made the video...

Its good actually that people with a bee in their bonnet like Moby have the tenacity to challenge the ingrained dire and disinterested customer service in Russia where most would give up, shrug, and say, "Its Russia".

That is something about Russia that is well overdue for change; or rather, needs to change faster if they are to develop further. The very occasional improvement here and there that I see visiting now and again is not keeping up with other developments in Russia the last ten years or so.

I still want to know if my diagnosis of timing belt tensioner was right.........

Letter from Customer Relations Ford Russia

''we’ll reimburse your taxi bills and 3000 RUR for diagnostics.
The only thing is that Svetlana will need to visit dealer one more time to receive the cash as there is no any other way to compensate. We’ll inform Svetlana once dealer is ready to pass the amount.
As for Engine check warning sign – seems to be the petrol as it was originally stated by the dealer, anyway for the future you always have my personal support and do not hesitate to contact me anytime/anyissues.
In addition I would like to offer to choose from either next regular maintenance or extended warranty as a gesture from our side – I would certainly recommend EW as to my opinion it is got more value but on the other hand if you are planning to sell this vehicle shortly then RM would be the right choice.
Rgds,
Maxim.
P.S. by the way dealer informed us that vehicle is ready for pick up as repair already performed.

''

SC wanted to sell the car - but Ford's offer seems generous. Now we must decide what to do

I'm not sure about the dodgy petrol diagnosis - unless all Russian gas is lousy - as we are using the fuel recommended and the light comes on / off as it pleases - at least we know we have a 'friend', now

Certainly a welcome gesture.

Russia is just starting to wake up to the importance of the happy client being the best advertising tool

Hopefully this is the end of the story ..

The Focus engine Management light has been on, again , for six days and we sought resolution before my return.

Yesterday, the car went into 'limp mode' and SC was told leave the car for inspection....

This morning, the dealer announced the car would be off the road for at least another 10 days and Moby was  engaged in emails with Ford Soller - the branch of Ford, in Russia - The customer care team.... suggesting it was time to reject the car as a ' lemon'.

I was 'off the grid' -after 0830 - asked the Chief to 'sort out SC with a replacement loan car and a proposal for a replacement' ..

Returned from a pleasant day's yacht racing and found out that we now own a new Ford EcoSport.... Not my first choice... I wanted a replacement Focus... but Madam is happy.

I wonder if this car will dislike Russian petrol, [ gas ] too  ?

limp mode is generally referred to as LHM Limp Home Mode.

The idea is that you are not disabled in the deep dark bush. Off course with some women that might be fun (in the deep dark bush).
