Opening a biz in Russia
« on: July 16, 2015, 02:44:32 AM »
Is there a thread here about opening a biz in Russia?

I remember there was a status..like self-employed that allowed folk to pay tax based on a simplified format for low turnover companies.

Doesn't help with the right to work though, business owner of not. Or is there a visa for that?

Correct, Ste

If I was to work here, I would need a work visa.

I asked about forming a legal entity as to get a biz internet connection.... 100meg leased line.. you need to BE a business!

I nearly got a 100mb synchronous leased line here into the house, uncontended, £250 a month, £3k setup fee waived. Couldn't really justify it though, would never use it and BT Infinity is fast enough...

Must consider though it's not always about pure bandwidth - tho uncontended is good!

My BT Infinity is officially 76mb, rated at 62mb due to distance to cabinet, actually 47mb in reality, but super fast and slick never any buffering despite several teenagers in the house Netflixing....

When I was working in Hampshire, we had Virgin 100mb fibre, only me in the house usually, always bang on 100mb on Speedtest, fecking unusable 18:00-20:00.....

God, I am glad I don't have to live up to that.

My internet is always 800+ Mbit on busy hours and 920-mbit in the later evening / early mornings.

My provider claims its internet thats busy, not their network.

I used to have a client that pushed 200Mbit continuously through my network, but they stopped.

I have BT Infinity also, again supposed to be 76Mb, currently achieving c.37 Mb, sometimes over 50Mb but still better than any others I have had the last few years.

In what part of Russia for your business?

Undecided - I am playing at the mo' .. the question arose as I have to have a business entity to have an uncontended, public IP,  business connection.

You should give a good study of a website  called www.nomadcapitalist.com   The two places they take a keen interest in is Tbilisi Georgia and a city on a Cambodian beach for good entrepreneral oportunities. I'd look it over. You might get some ideas.

Is there a thread here about opening a biz in Russia?

I know MANY people who have opened businesses in Russia.  The biggest would be my Swedish friends who opened Night Flight back in 1991.  To a man they all have the same advice -

Don't do it unless you can partner with a Russian businessman who understands how the "system" works and possess good relationships with people in authority and in the right government departments.

A foreigner opening a business in Russia without a Russian partner is as helpless as a lamb staked out as wolf bait.

Do not ruin three weeks of your life or your partner. There is endless paperwork each with hours long lines where you get to the front just as lunch time rolls along. There are businesses that will do the paperwork for you. I have done it once myself and twice through a business, Russia and Ukraine. I would never do it myself again. It used to cost about $300. Bookkeeping is full of minutia and if you require a cash register then that is a whole new headache getting one and learning to use it. They are registered and sealed.

On the good side, no visa worries. On the bad side, you still cannot work but you can be consultant.

What I heard too from expats, Russia just isn't geared up for this, no one quite knows what the rules are and you get fined for this and that you had no idea about. You have a Krisha then he 'disappears'. You just have to assume he was dead...

It is very easy to open a business in Russia. You can open a OO company which is a little like a ltd company. It costs about £200.00 .  You can use this company to live and work in Russia under the Highly skilled individual scheme providing you earn over 1.5 million Rubles per year there are other options. Using that scheme you will auto get a three year work permit for yourself and any family members (Just incase you wanted to take your grandmother with you). I did have a link from the Russian consulate a while back If I can find it I will post it.

The only problem as is always the problem in Russia is paperwork/red tape and the usual. If your married to a Russian and living in Russia you can work at home (Depending on your business) pretty well uninterrupted and needn't waste time making an official business for a few years at least.

I support no government anywhere, ever, never. No institution, No religion!!
