Here again we see the gold onion domes. Maybe I had my eyes closed and someone will correct me, but I don't recall gold onion domes anywhere else I went in Russia or the FSU apart from that bit of central Russia.

Can anyone expand on that?

The gold topped cathedrals and even smaller churches are rather common and one seems to overlook them.

A acquiantance worked on the restored Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Kamenets-Podolsky and it is partial gold covered. St. Andrew's church which is in Kiev and major example of Ukraine Baroque style is restored and it has allot of gold trim on the domes. The Pechersk Lavra here is also gold covered as are parts of St. Sophia. I remember seeing other churches covered in gold across Ukraine they are more common than one thinks.

Lavra

and yes the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Kamenets-Podolsky, have been there many times, in fact most cities and even small towns and villages have churches with gold domes, along with many other finishes of course, I have examples from all over the FSU and especially WU and the Carpathians.

It seems I captured some without notice...

This one is my favorite: https://plus.google.com/photos/117391214649148756630/albums/5621713079888601025/5621715203071528130?banner=pwa&pid=5621715203071528130&oid=117391214649148756630

It reminds me the region where my mother is from, it seems very peaceful and the play of the sunlight and tree shadows you captured is wonderful  :)
