What can I see in these photos? Turn on your imagination and you will also see citizens driving their cars and not looking at the beautiful scenes in front of their eyes as the traffic is too busy, foreign tourists on board the river ships looking at the beauty of the city with wide open eyes, and so called gastarbeiters , workers from Asian republics of the former the USSR with their narrow eyes looking only at their tools, granit, concrete and so on. They don't notice the beauty of the place where they came with the only purpose-to gain some money and send it to their families who live in a horrible poverty. So the gorgeous St.Petersburg exists only for foreigners. That's my conclusion.
Everything will be OK in the end, if it's not OK, it's not the end

Regina, what do you think about alternative history as St. Petersburg resident? Sadly one of my classmates was infected with this version and can't leave in peace  ;D. The only thing I agree - modern construction technology was really degraded in our days.

Milaa, I admit I don't know anything about construction. And to tell the truth, I don't understand your question about the alternative history. Do you mean 1917?

Mike your shot is too dark even if it was taken at night. But it was made from a very good place.

:reading:  ???

I was working with a new camera and not sure what I was doing :).  I think it got darker when I resized it in order to import it on the forum.  Even so, I do not possess your talents in photography but wanted to share.  Yes, the views of the city are incredible from that vantage point.

Could you, please, comment your pictures with name of places and buildings?
How to find them? Is there story connected to these places?
May be, we will try to find them while visiting this wonderful city.
It’s a great idea to show St. Petersburg with your eyes.

The church is Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood (2 Naberezhnaya Kanala Gribboyedova)

Next photo is the Naval Museum and Rostral Columns (Birzhevaya Ploshchad 4 | Strelka, Vasilievsky Island)

Next photo is the Hermitage (and Winter Palace) (Green building) as seen from the other side of the Neva River (Dvortsovaya Square, 2)

I saw the building in the next photo but don't recall what it is...if I remember right, it is near a park down the street from the Church of Spilled Blood or maybe St. Michaels Castle?  Regina, I am sure can answer...:)

I don't think that it will be right to write the names of all the places where the photos above were taken.  Of course, it's  the very center of the city, the embankments of the Neva. The last one was taken in the Field of Mars(Engineers" Castle) and one is the Cathedral of Our Saviour on the Blood .It's not a guide book. Every tourist won't miss them.  :drunk:

Ah, Field of Mars...is that near the park where the eternal flame (Memorial) for the 1917 Revolution is?

Three last photos were taken in Elagin Island, in the Central Park. I like it very much. That's enough of St.Petersburg, I think. It's too well known almost to everybody who is interested in Russia.Water, water, water is everywhere.  :travel:
