Went to a church organ recital in Chel, after three or so pieces someones mobile went off and he stormed off, never to return.

And he was late on, like 40mins late, ‘preparing’...

RIP Angus Young.

It was his brother Malcolm that died.

My bad; thanks for the correction. Years ago Bon Scott also died. He was in the video with bagpipes.

'Werewolves of London' - a classic Warren Zevon hit.

'Werewolves of London' - a classic Warren Zevon hit.

A classic.

In Philadelphia area saw a 'concert' of Warren, large concert bar/club. He stumbled out onto stage slurred some lines attempted to pick up his guitar and fell over where he remained for over an hour. Drunk as a skunk & totally shit faced.

Everyone got a free drink and the back up band and some other musicians joined in for an hour or so. Eventually Warren awoke mumbled some other things like sorry (I think) and dragged himself off stage. Half an hour latter he 'played' a few songs including my favourite, "Lawyers, Drugs and Money, from the song;

"I went home with the waitress the way I always do
How was I to know she was with the Russians too?"
“If you aren't in over your head, how do you know how tall you are?” T.S. Eliot

Ha! That's a great story to tell in the present but I'm sure it was disappointing at the time when you were expecting a good show. I suppose a free drink does take the edge off. It seems like an inordinate number of musicians struggle with substance abuse of varying brands. Along the lines of alcohol, Amy Winehouse immediately comes to mind (is it distasteful to point out that she has 'wine' right in her name?).

This discussion reminds me of a novelty song (of sorts) by the Rat Pack. To be honest, I only know about it because 'Family Guy' covered it.

Bit of English Folk Music with a modern tilt, song featured in BBC's 'Detectorists' class comedy show the BBC rip us off to make.

Wizlink -

...and a clip from the show, gentle comedy not laugh out loud to totally draws you in. It's about two middle-aged men who go metal detecting. That's it really..

Here's an awesome (live) Elvis cover of a Dennis Linde / Arthur Alexander song, 'Burning Love.' Definitely a ballooning tune in my book.

This is one of my favorite Russian songs, 'Song of the Bears' (maybe?). I'm curious to know if there exists some sort of holiday relation with the song (when I bought this piece on Itunes, the album artwork displayed what appeared to be a Russian santa claus). I discovered this tune a few years back when going through my sail-to-russia phase. The video helps to build a composite in my mind of its meaning... must be a romantic song, huh?

That's Shurik! I thought it was funny once when I was learning Russian  - now it's fecking annoying..

Think it's 'Song about Bears' - I've forgotten a lot of Russian vocab. now so I'm prolly wrong...

Thanks for the background info Ste, I wouldn't have otherwise discovered "Operation Y and Shurik's Other Adventures." I could see those characters (reminiscent of our 'three stooges') quickly becoming obnoxious (to an experienced speaker), but I might try to track down a copy of the production to help along my own language skills.
