Non FSU Trip Report: A Day in the Park, Golden Gate Park
« on: September 28, 2011, 05:35:37 PM »
I spent a day in San Francisco at Golden Gate Park. I did eat lunch at
Cinderellas Bakery and Cafe which is a Russian restaurant. They did
speak Russian behind the counter.

http://cinderellabakery.com/home.html

I ordered for everyone and placed the food at the center of the table
and everyone got a little bit of each dish.

I ordered:
Borscht: a rich beet root soup
Pelmeni: dumplings with meat filling served with sour cream
Blinchiki with ground beef: blini with meat and shredded egg filling
Piroshki: I forget what was in it
Potato Vereniki: It had onions, potatoes and some little fried onion
"fritters" on top

I didn't take photos of the food, I had to talk everyone into Russian
food as it was. I did get two thumbs up from all diners.

This is me in Saucelito just North of the Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge from the windshield on a blustery day of fog, misty rains
and high winds which is usual bridge weather and can be expected any day of the
year (or it might be nice). Bring warm clothes !!! DO NOT head to San Francisco without
them !! Bring a backpack with extra stuff in it. Don't allow someone to travel with you
without something warm, there is a good chance it will spoil your trip and it will be your
fault !

In Golden Gate Park you can easily find a days worth of tourist stuff to do.

The Conservatory of Flowers $7.00 per person to enter
It's muggy inside so put your warm clothes inside your backpack

My battery died in the middle of the exhibit

Mark Twain wrote "the coldest winter I've ever had was a Summer in San Francisco".  And he was right.  San Francisco is one of my two favorite cities in the US, but it seems to be always a little cold, no matter what time of year.  I remember I was going over to Alcatraz on a boat, I think in the summer and it was so cold I could see my breath.

Bill, there's another Russian restaurant there, called I think the Moscow and Tbilisi Bakery.  I had never heard of it until I was going through a client's records for defending against a California state tax audit.  Next time I go to San Francisco I have to check it out.

There are a number of Russian Restaurants in San Francisco. Cinderellas is within walking
distance of Golden Gate Park.

I visited San Francisco once when I was in the Navy. My submarine pulled in for a PR visit. I had a great time. Have you been to the cannery yet? There was a great pizza place near it. Can't remeber the name but I think it was called New York Pizza. Go figure...... LOL

Beautiful stuff !

If anyone here is a college campus fan and in the neighborhood; i'd recommend visiting CAL-berkley; one of my favorite college campuses and i've been to ND and michigan among many others.

The pacific northwest, the most beautiful area of the states imo.
Eat 'em up Houston Cougars !
